What Do You Like Doing?
By: Jella Date: June 28, 2014, 6:31 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
What do you like doing that you can share with others?
Drawing....painting....writing....carving....hospitality....sing
ing....sculpting....
photography....acting....gardening....flower arranging....
decorating....baking....cooking....cake decorating....playing an
instrument
sewing....weaving....landscaping....dancing....scrapbooking....
collage....candy making....camping....boating/sailing....and on
and on it goes.
If your's is not on the list can you share what it is and tell
us about it? Then of course if your's is on the list, can you
tell us about it and tell us about yours as well?
What do you think is important about having and engaging in a
hobbie or talent??
Or is it just a minor thing and is not as important as the
obviously important things in life....like career for
instance....or school....or some would say church....and/or
family...?
I believe it is just in us to want to create in some shape or
form...as it is with so much of God's creation. They are either
something that brings delight to the eye merely by looking at
them...or they create beauty just naturally in their daily
doings. I think it is in our nature...as we were created in the
Creator's image...to be creative - to create.

My hobbies come and go. Sad to say, I planted too many things
in too many flower beds; and I tend to fall behind on keeping
the yard in order. If it's not one thing, it's another.
This year, I felt as if I had achieved something when I had less
than 30 to 40 dandelions in my yard. It's a small yard, but it
used to be overrun by them. Today when I was out, I found a
few baby ones -- the seeds come flying in on the wind.
Then there's the bindweed -- a nasty, nasty weed. I read its
seed can lurk for over ten years before germinating. When will
I ever get rid of it? Then there's the Virginia Creeper and
the regular ivy and worst of all the poison ivy. Since I have
neighbors on both sides with fences, all these vines keep coming
over at me. Not that I have them all cleared out of my flower
beds, of course. They invaded them.
I've tons of lavender blooming now; and the tiger lilies are out
too. I could probably go into business selling the lavenderf
if I felt like hauling out my sewing machine to make little
pillows to stuff the lavender in. Yes, I used to sew! I used
to design my own clothes too at times. That's another story --
when I was in college, two little old ladies carrying groceries
saw me and one dropped her groceries when she saw my get-up!
Back to the lavender, the vines are lurking in with it and other
flowers right now. I should have gone out last fall to tear up
the ivy and Virginia Creeper after the flowers were over; but I
was lazy.
Then the neighbor's trees keep sending branches over my yard. I
may have to move plants and get more plants for shady areas.
Today I also was tackling some kind of crazy grass-like weed and
the clover. Both of those send out side shoots -- some under
the ground -- and both are persistent bothers. Other good news
though is that there is almost no plantain this year. I must
have eradicated it last year except for a few strays or a few
seeds.
My other hobby right now is tracking Tea Party candidates in
the states. It fascinates me how the Tea Party is different in
different places. I also am tracking how many run against
current Tea Party Congressmen, current Republicans and Democrats
-- as well as how many run in places where someone is retiring.

how many hours do you sleep Kerry?
My hobby is gardening and working out.
I used to have tons and tons of plants for years and I finally
realized that I am not even enjoying the flowers, just planting
and taking care of them.
I started reducing the plants every year. I finally got it all
manageable size for my age. I now have time for working out at
the gym:)

though it can be a big job)...here is my painting of a garden
for you. :) Kerry, what does bindweed look like? I have heard of
the Virginia Creeper...and your plantain...it doesn't grow
fruit? Meshak,....how many times a week do you work out? Do you
run too?

I have orange fruit but it does not produce yet. I don't know
if it will produce. I am keeping it for my tiny pond to give it
shade.
Most of my plants are flowers, and trees for shade. I chopped
off many trees because I got too much shade. Boy it was a lot
of work. I still have three more to chop off. I did not have
any plants in this house. And I over did it with trees. I
finally starting to pay attention to my plants how they are
doing, not just taking care of them.
I just started to enjoy barefoot jogging and got used to it, but
my physical therapy lady says I should stop it because my knee
will ware off. So now I reduce to doing it only once a week
instead of 5 times are week. I work out at gym using elliptical,
stair master and muscle work out.
thank you for the painting:) It is pretty.

[/quote]Bindweed is another name for wild morning glories.
They're white instead of blue. It's a hassle because it goes
around other plants and pulls them out of shape. The plantain
may be something else -- it's not the kind that grows fruit.
My Mother called it plantain and that's all I know to call it.
Okay, I looked it up. It is a kind of plantain.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about the nightshade. I rather like it
so I'm not that aggressive with it. The little purple flowers
are nice; and the berries are nice too. Of course, I could use
them to poison someone with too or use them the way some Wiccans
do. I told this guy into Wicca once about that, and he tried
it. He said it didn't work. Allegedly you can smush the
berries and rub the juice onto your skin and it makes you
hallucinate. The idea that witches can fly is supposed to have
come from hallucinating using nightshade.
I don't have enough nightshade plants to use the berries as
food. While they're poisonous raw, I've read they're harmless
if cooked. The heat breaks down the poisons. So I've heard,
but I don't feel like trying it.
It's called belladonna by some people. "Beautiful lady" since
women used to put an extract of it in their eyes to dilate their
pupils -- and it was thought to make them beautiful.

I love berry bushes, it is so pretty but the birds love them too
and eat them. so I cannot enjoy berry. So I gave up.

You don't have over do it but you need to work out if you dont
want any joint or back problem. I recommend you to get back to
working out, brother.
I had severe back pain because I over worked with my yard work.
Then I started physical therapy. I did it daily, an hour
stretching, two hours of cardio and muscle work out.
four years later, I am pain free. super flexible and super
fit:) I can even split:) I am stronger than when I was twenty:)
I did not do anything when I was young, so I was way out of
shape and I did not even know it.

I just got tons of annuals to fill my empty spaces.:)
that sure lifts me up. It was so sad looking with too many empty
spaced because some flowers did not come back after cold winter.
