Ramadan
By: Kerry Date: June 28, 2014, 4:34 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I was reading that Saudi Arabia expects 5.3 million pilgrims
during this Ramadan. I'm wondering how many cases of SARS will
be caught by the pilgrims and brought back to other countries.
Around 5.3 million Muslims will perform their Umrah pilgrimage
with Ramadan being right around the corner.
With the advent of Ramadan, the number of Muslims performing the
Umrah pilgrimage is expected to increase.
The Arab News reported, that since the beginning of the Umrah
season around 5.3 million pilgrims have entered the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Health said in a press statement that it would
continue preparations for the Umrah season by spreading
awareness among pilgrims on precautionary and preventive
measures to stay healthy.
They also stressed on the importance of vaccinations, which
should be taken by pilgrims to protect against diseases, and
that they are closely monitoring the health condition of
incoming Umrah pilgrims in the two holy cities of Makkah and
Madinah from the day of their arrival until they leave the
country.
The Ministry of Haj has confirmed that no Umrah pilgrim has been
affected by the corona virus during the current season.
How can they monitor the health of over 5 million people?

Never thought of it and did not even know it took place!!
Have you any idea Kerry how daunting it is to be on the same
site as you?
Your mind seems able to encompass so much more than my feeble
self, for me its just like starting school all over again age
5,when the other kids are streets ahead because they went to
nursery school and I did not.

[/quote]I wonder if the government of other countries were
thinking of it? They're the ones who should be thinking of
things like this to protect people. I haven't heard of any
government issuing a travel advisory.

it if you were thinking of visiting Saudi Arabia; but it seems
as if few governments are thinking about what could happen.
It's either that or they're afraid of offending Muslims by
advising people to avoid travel there at least for this year.
We've had a few cases of SARS so far in the USA of people coming
back from Saudi Arabia. Maybe I'm a worrywart and no one will
bring more cases of it to other countries; but conditions in
Saudi Arabia are often chaotic. Men go to get shaved by barbers
with filthy razors -- and catch diseases. The Saudi government
warns pilgrims about it, but can the police everyone getting a
shave? There have been problems in the past with contaminated
meat too. Got some old meat around? They get a lot of meat
during the Hajj too since each pilgrim is supposed to sacrifice
an animal -- and they do it by vouchers, leaving the butchers
with all this extra meat. Just sell it to the pilgrims or
anyone else you can. I used to read the news on a Saudi
website. I lost the link.
A year or two ago, I read they were building desalination plants
so they'd have more water. That's a big problem too. Can you
imagine packing millions of visitors into London for a week or
so with next to no water, not even the water from the Thames?
Sooner or later, there has to be a massive health problem coming
from packing so many visitors into one country. Saudi Arabia
also has a problem with pilgrims entering the country and then
not leaving.
I wish I still had the url for Saudi news. I found it
fascinating. I loved the story about two women in a cafe or
restaurant. The Morality Police saw they were not escorted by
a man and went up to talk to them. One of the women slapped the
police!
It's a wild country. What do the boys do for fun? And maybe
to catch a girl's eye?

Kerry -
How about an immediate death by trampling? There's a bunch of
clandestine stuff going on in repressive places. I suppose what
happens in SA stays there (sort of):

Nothing like being knocked about by the mutaween. Maybe it's
better that some live under these conditions but who's to say?
The mutaween?

The Morality Police in Saudi Arabia have their hands full,
that's for sure. I read the news from Saudi Arabia sometimes;
and there are some astounding stories.
One story was how some members of the Morality Police had
overstepped their authority and were prosecuted themselves.
Another story was about when they "accosted" a woman in a . . .
restaurant, I think, it was over something; and instead of being
intimidated, the woman slapped them.
Women pose a real problem today it seems. Here's a video of a
woman who didn't like what the Morality Police told her. In
Arabic.

The Daily Mail
HTML http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3164981/Brave-Saudi-woman-turns-tables-religious-police-hound-wearing-eye-make-filming-cower-away.html<br
/>covered that story. (What would we do without the Daily Mail
?)
And another YouTube video -- with English subtitles:

Anyway, the US System insists, since many decades, on convincing
the world that the people in the fanatic radical Islamist
country, Saudi Arabia (origin of Al-Qaeda), are more civilized
and peaceful than those who live in Syria ;)
It seems the Evangelists in the White House have some good
reasons to hate those who refuse being driven by Al-Sharia of
Al-Qaeda as the Syrian ones do :(
So while all countries applying Al-Sharia on their people
(including the newly created one, ISIS) share the same
facilities of the Free World (claimed being Christian but ruled
by Jews... yes, this is another joke spread globally), the
Syrian people, secular on the ground, had (still have) to live
hundreds of economical sanctions, approved from America, against
them and to be deprived sharing many global technical/trade
services (even on the internet)... mainly since after the 9/11
tragic day.
I mean, God only with the American Evangelists on power... have
the answer of this rather old paradox ;D

Nothing like a furious woman in your ear by day waking you by
echo at 3 in the morning. Hope she got down good and deep. Good
for her and her sisters and brothers who support her.
I don't know. The pressure from outside's too much sometimes.
Cuba, China changing. Something's gotta give in North Korea.
It'll come sooner or later with pressure I think however
stubborn the situations appear. I'm optimistic. Can't be
otherwise by faith.

This news from the Saudi Gazette
HTML http://saudigazette.com.sa/saudi-arabia/divorced-men-women-ksa-nearing-quarter-million/<br
/>has me scratching my head.
The number of divorced men and women in the Kingdom is nearing a
quarter of a million, according to a report issued by the
General Authority for Statistics.
By the second half of 2015, there were 228,275 divorced Saudis,
said Makkah Arabic daily quoting the report.
Out of 228,275 divorced Saudis, 66,629 were men and 161,646
women. King Saud University Assistant Professor of Sociology
Murdhiyah Al-Bardissy said the Ministry of Social Affairs should
take these statistics seriously and put in place an active plan
to decrease the rate of divorce.
How could there be twice as many divorced women as men? Are
they not counting men as divorced if they had two wives and
divorced one but not both?

Imagine one rich Saudi man used having 4 wives taking advantage
of the holy right that was given to him by the god of Mohammad
(Allah).
So I think when this man replaces his wives by another younger
ones (one at a time, not to upset his god ;) ), he is still a
married man but his ex-wives are divorced.
But I also think that you are right to be confused if the report
is serious. Normally speaking, the number of divorces should be
equal to the number of divorced men and equal to the number of
divorced women as well.
On the other hand, perhaps in Saudi and alike, if a man
divorces, at the same time, 2, 3 or 4 wives, this may be counted
as one divorce only (if their Allah does it this way ;) ).
