       unti-depressant
By: meshak Date: June 27, 2014, 12:49 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have been on this meds for 13 years. I have tried to wean
from it a few months ago but it did not work. I may need it for
       rest of my life.
Some say it kills your brain.
       Do you know any alternatives?
       thank you.

When I am in depression, I have no energy whatsoever. I become
       suicidal because of my anxiety.

If you are referring to antidepressants there are some
alternatives. Herbal teas are good such as chamomile tea. There
are herbs like St. John's Wort, Valerian, Passion Flower, and
Kava. It is also a good idea to take a multivitamin. Some years
ago, a doctor told me to take prenatal vitamins and I still take
them. They help with my energy level. I have been on
antidepressants in the past but not now. I don't like taking
them so I have tried these alternatives.

If you have problems with your energy level you could try
prenatal vitamins and see if they make a difference. They are
the only kind that help me. And then later maybe you could take
       a regular vitamin.
No I don't take all these herbs everyday only when I need them.
I only do one at a time not all of them at the same time. I had
to see which one worked for me. For instance you could first try
St. John's Wort for a few weeks and see if that helps. If not,
then try another one. I have found chamomile tea to be good for
anxiety and depression. But these herbs are not recommended if
you are on a prescription drug. They don't mix well.
Meshak, be very careful about coming off whatever antidepressant
you have been taking. It is best to talk to your doctor about
       this.

When someone is experiencing depression they often tend to think
and expect the worst of themselves, their life and the future.
And it can be a challenge to overcome this negative thinking
       when someone is depressed.
There are some things you can do when you are depressed to help
yourself feel better. One thing is to remain active even if you
have no energy because this will improve how you feel. I find
that taking walks can actually increase my energy level. Do
things that interest you. Some people find that creative
activities like painting, writing poetry, and gardening help
them to feel better. I enjoy listening to praise videos. That
always seems to help me feel better. I also enjoy reading and
other things. Be kind to yourself and do special things for
yourself. It's important to take care of yourself when you are
depressed and make sure to eat well and get enough sleep. It
helps to talk to others that are close to you about how you're
       feeling.
I find that what helps me the most in overcoming depression is
prayer and my faith in God who gives peace, comfort and hope.

When my depression kicks in, I just cannot do anything. All I
can do is stay in bed.
My depression started when I took off my meds. So I started
taking again, then I got all feel better after two weeks.
How long were you on meds? I have been on 13 years.
BTW, my depression is life long. I had this since I was teen
age and I did not know I had this disorder until recently. It
seem inherited. My father was an alcoholic. we did not have
       normal upbringing.
As long as I am on meds, I am fine.

Your meds must be helping you if you feel better while on them.
In my case meds didn't make me feel better but worse and caused
more problems with the side effects. I've been on meds off and
on since 1991. I recently stopped taking them and trying other
alternatives. I've been dealing with depression since I was a
teenager and my upbringing was certainly not a normal one, far
from it. I would recommend that you stay on your meds since they
are helping you to feel better.
