~ God turning up~

I often used to think that those in the OT had it much easier
than us today.
I mean....God speaking right to them..Noah, Abraham, Moses,
Samuel , David, etc etc..
Then someone broke that bubble for me! I must say I felt a lot
better then. :)
When we think of all those early Bible people having it so
good, I mean hearing so clearly from God!.. But, in balance we
see that God “showed up” in Abraham’s life only about once in
every 15 years! :o
Abraham had no Bible, no group fellowship, and no wonderful
worship services, yet he stayed the course. Year by silent year.
For years God didn’t “show up” to rescue Joseph or speak to him
(on record).....but he hung in there because he knew that “the
Lord was with him.” And he kept the vision.
As far as we know Paul had only two direct encounters with
Jesus. I am pretty sure that for the rest of their lives they
were just like us!...without not too many "mountain top"
experiences.
It’s easy to wrongly think that Joshua and the people in the Old
Testament were more blessed than us because God promised to be
with them. ( cloud and pillar of fire)
Jesus promised us, that He would not leave us as “orphans” but
would send the Holy Spirit to be in us and with us. So, in fact,
we are ahead of the game compared to them...we have the
indwelling Spirit who whispers to us daily!!
Not yearly..or once a decade...I know I wouldn't still be
"running the race" if that was so...I'd have "died on the vine!"
::)
None of the ancient Bible heros had the privilege we do of
having a Book that could be carried, read, memorized, etc..but
we do!

I also always thought as if the people who heard from God had it
easier in the matters of BELIEF but then there was the
persecutions, and deaths by stoning, burning, and crucifixions
because of what one believed in...
I still think it would be an easier journey if one could hear
from God and know for SURE it was God... I would think it would
be a comfort of reassurance that one is fighting the right
battle... The hardest thing for alot of people including myself
is just believing... There seems to always be those times when
one starts to have thoughts of doubt...
When I think of it the way you have mentioned it... only hearing
once every 15 years, that would leave alot of time for doubt.
They must have faced a different type of faith, and belief...
Either way I don't think the journey is ever an easy one...

King James Version (KJV)
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and
broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be
which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which
leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.[/size]
