The score is 6:1

[color=black]1 Cor 3 11 For other foundation can no man lay
than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man build
upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay,
stubble; 13Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day
shall declare it,
I was wondering, just why do people insist that gold silver and
precious stones are good foundations and wood hay stubble is
not.
Now the way I see it and this is just little old me, Paul gives
a list of six foundations that straight away gives me a clue
since 6 is the number of man. Man always tries to "do it" he
is always out doing something for God, no matter that God never
asked David to build him a house David was determined to do
something for God.
Well the Lord told David "just when did I ask you to do
something for me, well you are not going to do it I am going to
do something for you".
Just like us always trying to outguess God, that is like a man
building on the golden foundation " I am doing this for God
The silver foundation is like it "I am doing this for Jesus I am
out saving souls" we talk about saving souls as 'the great
commission', this means we are justified to ourselves in
ignoring loving one another because we are busy serving Jesus.
Precious stones what are they? They are the gifts of the spirit,
once more we have man busy serving the calling of the spirit
moving in spiritual gifts and being ever so busy in the church.
The foundation is only one and it is Jesus Christ the anointed
Messiah.
Only when we stop running around trying to do Gods work for him
and just rest in Jesus, learn to come to him because we are
wearing ourselves out working so hard for God, only then will we
come into the rest of God prophesied for us.
Heb 4 9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from
his own works, as God did from his.
Can any man abide the all consuming love of God that fire will
try us all, don't matter what you call it if you are working for
God its all going to be burnt up gold silver precious stones
wood hay stubble Gods love will consume them all.

What do you mean when you say?

How does one rest in Jesus and how does that relate to:
Luke 9:23
King James Version (KJV)
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

I read that differently, James. I think Paul is saying that
even if the foundation is right, some things will be burned up
and others not.

[font=courier]A person with the proper foundation (Jesus Christ)
will be saved no matter what has been built on top of that
foundation. The things built of the proper foundation will
endure if they are able to endure the test of fire. Wood, hay
and stubble will burned up by fire. Gold silver and precious
stones will be cleaned up and purified by fire.
"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that
cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy
to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with
fire:" Matt 3:11
The "fire" is our God, the consuming fire! If we are where we
need to be the fire will not hurt us as it did not hurt the
three Hebrews Nebuchadnezzar had thrown in the fire. Those who
threw the three into the fire expecting to kill them were
themselves slain by the overwhelming heat. They had not even the
proper foundation to approach the fire.
That the clothes of the three Hebrews were not burned means that
probably what they had built on the proper foundation was also
up to the test of the fire of God.

Very good thoughts John. :)
I liked the reference to Nebuchadnezzar ...hadn't linked that
story in to it...but it fits.
