The number of displaced people was horrifying. I read in one
place ten to twelve thousand people maybe. Where are they all
going to go? Then so many roads were closed, and I was
wondering how people could leave or if they left in time before
the roads went out. It may take ten years to get everything
back in shape. My question is if they should rebuild everything
there again.
You live up in higher area, don't you?

Yes it was ten - twelve thousand people...but it's higher now.
No one knows what will happen and how it will be worked out. No
insurance for them etc. Even a week later people still can't
get to work down-town. ( and who knows when!! )
Restaurants, Doctors, Lawyers and account offices are still
closed...my daughter needs to contact her accountant...but has
no home number for him. Everything is a mess.
"They say" the Calgary Stampede will still go on...I see no way.
So on top of this flood, the city will lose I don't know how
many million $.
Yes, we are on a hill, so pretty insulated from 'the
drama'...but only five mins away beautiful homes are totally
ruined. Sad day.

I saw a map of where the roads were still closed. Downtown
Calgary looked the worst, north of the river. I couldn't tell
from the map how high the land was; but I was guessing the land
north of the river might be flatter and lower. If that's the
case, maybe they won't rebuild so many things right there again.
Even if people could get downtown, who knows how many businesses
could open anyway? It caught me off guard. I would never
expected a flood like that in Calgary. Some people say it
could be global warming. I don't know if that's right it or
if it was just a rare thing. If it is global warming, the
government should buy the land from the owners and make it a
park.
Some people will move away to get jobs and homes. I probably
would if I thought it would be ten years before things got
fixed. Lots of people left New Orleans after Katrina and
didn't go back.

Agree. I forgot to say and maybe you read it..a big Indian
Reserve got hit too...it was close to the river...I think they
too lost everything.
This flood also hit many town around the Calgary area, not just
Calgary.
Both Edmonton and Calgary were once Forts....so both were built
right on the river...back in the old days all trade came and
went via the River.
