I am against Christians joining the military because Jesus'
followers are Jesus' representative to the world. Christians are
misrepresenting Jesus when they take side of any nation.
Jesus says His followers are not of this world and the military
is politics and it is of the world.

This is also my stance.
I did military service in England in the days when it was
compulsory excepting for approved conscientios objection.
I objected for the reasons that you quoted (plus one other) and
gained partial approval.
I still had to do 2 years 'National Service', but limited to non
combative duties.
My 'other reason' was my objection to the principle of
obligatory conscription.
I felt that serving one's country on a military basis ought to
have had a recompence that was sufficient to enable a voluntary
force to be maintained. I also felt that one ought to be free to
decline service if one genuinely felt that a particular 'war'
was declared other than for the reason of defence.
I realise the difficulty in preventing people from using such
objections without sincerity, but how good is an army comprised
of reluctant personel?
If you were a voluntary soldier how would you feel fighting and
relying upon the protection of your life on the integrity of the
man beside you who was there reluctantly?

]I was thinking of starting a thread about the causes of war. I
believe most wars are started because people tolerate evil
things in their leaders, sometimes even love the evil in their
leaders. Can anything be done to stop wars? Anything? I
think there is. I as one person may not be able to do much, but
I can do some things I think to push things in the right
direction.

Kelly,
would you like to start this in another thread or would like to
discuss in my military thread?
thank you.

[/quote]I think I'd rather start a new thread since it might
interfere with this one; and at first, I would be talking about
things which might seem unrelated to war. People may wonder
what I was talking about because it might take me some time to
get to my conclusions. I was thinking of working it into the
thread about Job since I that book explains why we have wars.
I think at least in part, it does. I read Job as a prophecy;
and I think it has clues about the Messianic Age when peace will
come.
