Site Content.
By: Mike Date: April 20, 2013, 1:24 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I had to troll through 64 mainly secular (albeit interesting)
posts before coming to anything relevant to the site's title.
(My blogsite is the other extreme.)
Of course the answer might be for me to post some more to this
site of the sort of stuff that I consider to be spiritually
uplifting.
But if I did then would such posts be appreciated?

(My blogsite is the other extreme.)
I wouldn't say that.
Did you listen to any of the Gunsmoke episodes? If you have
half an hour to spare, I really do recommend the first one --
it's titled "Greater Love." It's about loving our fellow man
in a way. It also has a man in it seeing something for the
first time -- it's like the Gospel message in a way.
I think I could connect the dots in other posts. Can we love
God if we don't love our fellow man? How do we treat the
stranger in our midst? These are not being discussed in an
openly religious way with lots of Bible verses being quoted; but
I think they relate to things from the Bible, to the Golden
Rule, etc.
I had been wondering if there was something wrong with me for
not feeling too sorry for rich people when bad things happen to
them. Am I a callous person? Am I envious or their money but
don't want to admit it? Then I remembered what Jesus said about
it being hard for rich people to enter the kingdom. Now I think
I understand why. It's too easy for them to enjoy life and
seclude themselves from the unpleasant things of this world --
it's not that they actively wish evil on people. It's just
easier to do nothing and pretend nothing's wrong anywhere.
Just this morning, I decided I was not too wrong to feel little
sympathy for the rich. God must not, not if so few of them
make it in. So why should I vex myself and ask if I'm
cold-hearted towards the rich? I feel sorry for them now -- it
might have been better for them if they had been born poor.
Yes, I feel sorry for some people for being rich since it seems
unfortunate in a way. I was wondering if Pharoah would have
been less cold-hearted towards Israel if he hadn't been Pharaoh?

Who knows? My Gunsmoke thread got no response. That's okay.
We can only post as we please, and hope for the best.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The "spiritually uplifting"
type of posts often don't get many responses. Even when people
agree or appreciate them, there is not too much to be said
sometimes.

Kerry,
When I trolled through the posts I admit that I didn't click on
any links.
And you're right that there is little constructive to be said in
response to spiritually uplifting scripture based posts.
Where's Leaf (again)?
I don't know where she is, Mike. I suppose she's busy
again. I know Heartsong and Helen are not in the best of health
and need our prayers.
The Gunsmoke episode is about a desperate criminal holding the
doctor hostage. When the Marshall risks his life and saves the
doctor, the criminal said he thought it was crazy to risk your
life to save someone else. It might spoil the ending if I told
too much. That show is not preachy or overtly Christian; but
I'm convinced at least of the scriptwriters was a Christian and
got some messages through.

Sorry about leaving no response on the Gunsmoke episode. I have
watched it and enjoyed it. At the moment I had nothing to say.
My main regret is that such episodes are never likely to be made
again.

I didn't necessarily expect a reply, Amadeus. I remembered
that you had watched some episode, but I wasn't sure which one I
had posted before.
Yes, those days of radio are over when drama taught moral
lessons. When TV came in, most of the dramas went there.
People could "see" things without using their imagination, and
things also became more sensational and less instructive.
Radio became more music. Now music is more mp3's and things
like that; and radio is more talk -- either sharp political talk
or idle chit-chat in the mornings for people who are trying to
wake up.

This is so true! As long as I remember there has always been
color t.v. I cant remember a time that I listen to the radio to
hear a story other than the little Christian cassette tapes in
elementary school; but even they had books to follow along with
and see pictures of what was being said. I tried listening to
those Gun Smoke episodes, but I couldn't really imagine the
story or picture it in my head and found myself losing focus and
my mind wondering off. For me the radio is for music and talk
radio like you said. Funny how things change with time isn't it.
Who would have thought twenty years ago that one could watch
t.v. search the internet, and video chat all from a cell phone
that you carry in your pocket.

I don't need to know your age to recognize that
you grew up in a very different era than I. I can remember
coming home from school, turning on the radio and lying down on
the floor beside it to listen to "Big John and Sparky", " The
Lone Ranger", "The Green Hornet" and many other old favorites.
I had heard of TV, but no one I knew owned one. When we got our
first TV set it was of course black and white. We lived about
100 miles south of San Francisco. Using an tall antenna on the
top of the house for reception we were able to tune in 3 or
stations. Only one was reasonably clear (only a little snow).
None of the stations were on the air late at night, nor very
early in the morning.
The first telephone we had was on a party line shared with about
3-4 other households. When an incoming call was for us there was
a definite ring pattern (two shorts). To call out there was a
box with a ringer. You picked the phone (microphone and speaker)
and rang the operator by turning a little hand crank. She would
answer and ask for the number you wanted and connect you. We
lived in a town of about 1000 people, but we had our own small
telephone office with a switchboard where the operator (a real
person) would plug in (literally) wires to connect different
parties to one another.
Then wonder of wonders: the phone company built a small
completely automated office that eliminated the telephone
operator jobs in our town. They installed direct dial telephones
in everyone's home. For all local calls and for many long
distance calls you did it all yourself by dialing the phone
number. If you didn't know the phone number you would call for
directory assistance and the operator would give you what you
wanted.
