The Mercy Seat.

There is a place where Jesus sheds
The oil of gladness on our heads;
A place than all besides more sweet;
It is the blood bought mercy seat.
There is a scene where spirits blend,
Where friend holds fellowship with friend;
Though sundered far, by faith they meet
Around one common mercy seat.
There, there, on eagles’ wings we soar,
And time and sense seem all no more;
And heaven comes down, our souls to greet,
And glory crowns the mercy seat.
Oh, let my hand forget her skill,
My tongue be silent, cold, and still,
This bounding heart forget to beat,
If I forget the mercy seat!

Hi Laurie,
No I didn't write it.
I copied it from
HTML http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/f/r/o/fromevsw.htm
The story behind it for me is that on Sunday evenings, after our
Gospel service, our organist used to play old favourites and the
members used to graduate round her for a 'sing along'.
One Sunday she was playing and singing this hymn from the end of
Sankey's Sacred Songs and Solos hymn book and I was hooked.
So much so that I failed to notice that my girlfriend Jean hand
slinked away because I was not paying her the usual attention.
I raced after her and just caught up with her as she approached
the bus stop to catch the bus home.
"Wot thee not that I must be about my father's business?" came
to mind but wouldn't have been appreciated.

I found two versions of it at You Tube, Mike.

Kerry,
Your first video was the right hymn but not the tune from
Sankey's hymnal.
Second one was a different hymn.

Is this the right one? They are all beginning to sound alike to
me. . . .

^ The second one is certainly the hymn.
But I've tried them all and none of them uses The Sankey's
Hymnal tune which is the one that stirs my nostalgia.

^ I was hoping to find it, Mike, but I guess I can't.
