Three tabernacles
By: James Date: December 5, 2012, 3:59 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Matt 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus,
Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make
here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one
for Elias.
Jesus had taken Peter James and John to the top of the mountain.

That expression alone sums up for us the thought of being at the
place where it is nigh impossible to conceive of any experience
being greater in the Lord, yet there was more to come.
Jesus was physically changed before the disciples and those who
were thought dead appeared before them.
Jesus did not love these three disciples more than the others
who he left in the valley. When others seem to be blessed with
an experience in the Lord that you do not have, don’t think you
are being left out. Let God be God he will choose whom he will
and he loves us all equally with an unchanging love.
Peter wanted to encapsulate the transfiguration experience by
building tabernacles for them to dwell in, do not be fooled into
building your ministry around an experience you have had in God
that was designed to equip you personally, not to become the
theme or emphasis of your life or your ministry.
Gods plan is to feature Jesus not you and your experience.
It is only a small notch to slip from enjoying the lords
blessing, to insisting that what you have experienced is a must
for every other believer and most necessary if they wish to
proceed in God.
We become like those who wanted to insist that all new
Christians had to be circumcised, returning to the works of the
law.
The Lord does not take us to the top of the mountain because we
are wiser or more spiritual than others as Romans 9:18 says ‘he
will have mercy on whom he will’, we live in the age of his
grace!

^ This post made me ask myself where the world would be today if
Jesus had told Peter to build the tabernacles and they could
stay there. You have to appreciate Peter's enthusiasm about
what he had seen and experienced, but he needed to see there was
more to it. Something else was to follow. Jesus had bigger
plans for Peter.

Yes, each part of the Body is to have its own
part, its own function. If we make ourselves fully available for
that which God has chosen for us, what more could or should we
desire?
Peter wanted to encapsulate the transfiguration
experience by building tabernacles for them to dwell in, do not

Peter was still manifesting the shortcomings of
his own flesh... even though he had already been experiencing
the presence of Jesus and the Spirit of God. Until every last
thing that stands between us, or could stand between us, and God
has been overcome, all of us who love God in some measure remain
susceptible to such negative manifestations. Peter still needed
to grow as do we. Peter already had encountered Jesus, but there
were better things ahead for Peter as we see in other writings
in the NT. When did the difference between the old Peter and the
new become readily apparent? Was it not after he had been in the
upper room with 120 believers? If we have had an upper room
experience, shouldn't also be manifesting a difference without
regard to which part we are? The Body of Christ is growing, but,
are we growing with it, or are we dying on the vine, needing to
be pruned off...?
Gods plan is to feature Jesus not you and your
experience.
Jesus is already featured, not just in a book or a
Book, but in those who are loving and walking with their Lord.
If we cut ourselves out of the picture, is there not a danger of
pruning ourselves off of the Vine?

Yes, we cannot take the lead in the ways of our
flesh. This is why we have been given the gift of the Holy Ghost
to prepare us with the cutting off of our own head (see the type
and shadow in the Baptist) while taking on our new Head.
This part, which I am to become, has a function, which if I do
not do it, will be reassigned to another... When the Lord
directs us forward, we should cannot stand back; but if He
directs us to stand back, neither should we step forward.

True enough, but, when He has a task for us to
perform as directed by the Holy Ghost, to stand still is to die
to Him.

It is not the place that is special but the special person who
was in that place.
On the flip side of things, they difinitey testified of their
experience and thought it was very special.

AMEN!!!
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto
me. John 12:32
Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord Jesus!
At the same time, however:
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always
to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of
you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse
your good conversation in Christ. 1 Peter 3:15-16

What an encouragement your post is for me, James.
Even though I'm pretty sure I'm right where the Lord wants me at
the present...every now and then something will trigger the
thought that I should have more zeal and be doing more.
Then I remember the times I was coerced by people into
doing...and was miserable---and the times I felt called by the
Lord to do...and was joyful.
Every "experience" that has happened to me, I believe has been
to impart a little bit of "know"ledge....to make me "know" how
God loves those some deem unlovable...to "know" some of His
age-spanning plan and purpose...to "know" that zeal without
"know"ledge has played a part in false teachings and beliefs
cemented in minds for centuries...to"know" it's all going to
work out to unimaginable good...to "know" that He is(has & will)
guiding, teaching, and bringing many to "know" how they will
soon be serving and loving Him and others. ;)
