       Pet Peeves 2.0
By: paralambano Date: February 23, 2023, 8:35 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Okay, so if anyone's got some pet peeves, here's the place to
       share them.
I think there might be some things which bug everyone at one
time or another like my use of comma punkshayshuns, etc..
because,,, that's just, the, human condition for, all of us.
There are the ones like how to load the toilet-paper roll, the
lid up or down, not emptying garbage, etc, etc. which are quite
       common I think.
I'm thinking more though of the unusual ones, something that
might bug you, Dear Reader, that most let slide with little
discomfort or notice at all, or strange ones that some might not
know about. I'll give a couple of my own.
People who speak unaccented North American English who when they
come to speak a foreign word in part of a sentence speak it with
gravitas and floridly like they're imitating the foreign
language, and then the very next words are back to regular
English! And one knows that they don't speak that language.
       ROFL.
I had this Professor who would talk unaccented English but every
time he'd say Nicaragua, for example, he'd say it like
Neeeharrrrrahghwhah like he was ready to jump out and perform a
Mexican hat-dance or blow down a house. Why!? Why!?
Anyway, I used to sit in back of his class and I'm thinking that
if I had had a cell back in the day, I'd be tempted to hit play
on this whenever he said it like that. I'd do it at least once
       for laughs:
  HTML https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PoQ7PLGY0_U

The other one is when it's said that someone passed away
       surrounded by their loved ones.
Okay, so I can buy that this happens and likely a lot. And that
many want it. But I find that awful for myself.
I mean, who wants to be watched dying by a bunch of mopey,
sad-eyed family or whoever one is leaving? Not me. That's what
one wants to see? Leaving everything you really, really wish you
wouldn't? The long goodbye? See ya soon? The dimming of the
light as life appears to leave? No. No. No one around for that
       for me.
And then the R.I. P. comments. Makes it seem like they're lying
in bed everlastingly. Why need rest? That's all what they've
been doing laying there perhaps for hours or days before going
out! They're supposed to be doing that on the other side too?
       What fun.
Okay, to each their own. I mean, I wouldn't say these things to
people in circumstances like these. I'd keep it locked down
deep, deep, deep roiling inside of me with a snug lid on top as
       a man's supposed to do.
Anyway, these things really don't keep me up at night. They're
       just stuff I don't get.
       Brakers, brakers, any takers?
       para . . . .

Okay, so if anyone's got some pet peeves, here's the place to
       share them.
       [/quote]
       A wet toilet seat
The sound of gum popping when being chewed
Putting chewed gum on a desk, table etc.
People not cleaning up after themselves
Putting empty containers in the fridge as well as drinking from
containers in the fridge such as a milk jug etc
Leaving used glasses and dishes in different places
Allowing pets to do their business in front of my door in the
hallway (twice) and then not clean it up
Hearing people gossip about other people's personal business and
even my business when my back is turned
Flirting men especially when they're drinking
Annoying politicians who lie and say ridiculous things and think
that people aren't smart enough to recognize that
People acting like they're in an oppression olympics
Doctors who treat me differently from men and say things like I
don't know the difference between real chest pain and heartburn
       and don't take me seriously
Rude drivers who put others at risk
There are more but I think that's enough.

       Thanks for a reply.
How do you generally deal with these things? Do you categorize
them like there's stuff that you know might happen in public and
then stuff that happens privately? Like, I know that people will
talk about me behind my back and some think I'm a dope (like
when one leaves two or more people) but I don't care about it as
long as they're not doing anything harmful. I just think I
didn't think I mattered at all to them, LOL, but they're talking
about me anyway. Nothing I can control.
I find that when I expect stuff to happen publicly when I'm
outside like bad drivers, people spitting on sidewalks, etc.
it's a bit easier to take. So anything nice that's happening
kind of stands out for me as really good. Like right now I'm in
a public place and everything seems normal for now and I can
appreciate it for now even more. It's like, I can't believe
       nothing weird's going on.
But I can see where one has some control of the environment,
where things are generally expected to be nice, not necessarily
chaotic, that these could really bug more. I suppose that's why
some houses have more than one washroom.

It depends on the situation. I can overlook most things that
annoy me. I'm able to do that. Some things I won't overlook. For
example, the other night about 12:30 am somebody rang my
doorbell and woke me up. That I won't and didn't overlook.

My aide told me that there are people here asking her questions
about me and my business. She knows that I'm a private person
and that I don't want other people here knowing my business.
Also she is not allowed to discuss her client's personal
business. When my oldest son's fiance passed away, he spent some
time with me. He has his own place. When a loved one passes it
is only natural to want to spend time with a family member. We
aren't allowed to have anyone live with us. The next thing I
knew a rumor and gossip was going around that he was living with
me and apparently that was reported to the office. So many
people here were asking me if he was living with me and I said
no but the rumor persisted. My youngest son spent about a month
with me when I was packing and moving. He was helping me. The
same thing was said about him.

Let me start with my pet peeves about telephones and the
internet. This morning, I got another of those telemarketing
calls with the pause before some recording comes on. Would I
like help with my credit card debt? I said no, and the
computerized voice repeated the question. This time I said okay
on the theory if they wasted my time, I'd return the favor. I
got transferred to a live person with a bad phone that crackled
and with some foreign accent. I couldn't understand half of
what he said. I told him I was confused why I got the call.
What led his company to think I had credit card debt. Maybe he
couldn't hear me either since he persisted. Finally I asked him
if this was a scam trying to get credit card numbers. No
       answer from him on that!
I hate the ads some websites have that clutter the screen when
you visit their sites. You can't read the articles you want
without clicking somewhere to get rid of them. News sites can
       be terrible.  Some also had ads that cover the top of the page;
and when you scroll a bit, they fly upwards and make the whole
page jump. Then there are sites which think they'll be polite
and they flash things on the screen when you move your mouse up
towards the address bar. Some sites are so bad I avoid them
unless other sites aren't carrying the same story.
Another pet peeve is that the police in my town don't enforce
the ordinance about how loud vehicles can be. Some are very
       loud.
Listening to old time radio as I do a lot, the old shows often
hired singers and some weren't very good, singing off key. It
doesn't bother me when people who aren't trying to be
professional singers go off key. That's pretty standard in
churches; but they're doing the best they can so it doesn't
bother me. Vanity isn't involved. I've also heard opera
"stars" singing off key. Who promotes or hires them? There are
some singers with wonderful voices when they stay on pitch; but
if they're the kind that often goes off key, I wish their
managers would tell them not to do live performances and stick
to recordings where they can repeat it until they get it right.

I had that happen to me when I lived in a rooming-house. 3:30 am
a guy knocking on my door wanting to drink with me. Even left a

the net I believe has primed us to be impatient, everything has
to be quick, quick, quick, so I think it helps on the reader's
end to slow things down a bit. The same page prob'ly be there

Ya. And they're usually the smallest vehicles like Civics. For

Ya, it happens. Heard one a couple of days ago on one of the
anthems in a sporting arena. It could be the ambient noise
effecting/affecting them. The worst are soccer players, though,
when they're lined up singing national anthems. The camera gets
right up into their faces and you can hear every word they sing
totally off-key and so earnestly some! Okay, so they're not pro
singers but it's kind of funny anyway.

I had mentioned before I think that a man here grabbed me in the
elevator. He was drinking alcohol from a plastic cup and he was
clearly intoxicated. He took me off guard because it was so
sudden and so brazen. He is a big man in height and bulk, at
least as tall as my son who is 6'4". He looks like a linebacker.
I did report that to the office but nothing was done. He was
then put into an apartment right next to mine where he is right
now. He is one of the men here who seem to drink to excess on
the weekends when no one is in the office. Before the renovation
there were cameras on every floor but they removed the cameras
during the renovation. Although I didn't actually see him at my
door that night, I know it was him. I'm not the only woman who
has reported him for that kind of behavior. I also heard him
threaten to hit a woman in a wheelchair.
My birthday was recent and my son bought two small wired Roku
cameras for me as a birthday present. I have one pointed toward
the door and the other one in the living room area that covers
the whole area of that part of my apartment. I wanted one to put
on the wreath on my door so I'm looking for a very small one to
maybe hide within the wreath. That one would have to be wireless
and those seem to cost more.

I've been living here about eight years and nobody in the office
has ever told me about a time limit that someone can visit.
We're all senior citizens in this building and there are some
people here whose family members never visit them and maybe they
feel bitter about that and feel some resentment toward me
because my sons would visit often and my oldest son still does
and my youngest son would too if he was still alive. It's none
of their business how often my sons visit me or for how long.

I may yet have to call the cops because he is right down the
hall from me, the next apartment to the right of me and I really
don't see him changing his behavior anytime soon and maybe
