The New Suit
By: Runner Date: October 31, 2012, 11:15 am
---------------------------------------------------------
~Billy Graham's Suit ~

Billy Graham is now 91-years-old with Parkinson's
disease.
In January 2000, leaders in Charlotte , North Carolina ,
invited their 'favorite son', Billy Graham, to a luncheon in his
honor.

Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation
because he struggles with Parkinson's disease. But the
Charlotte leaders said, 'We don't expect a major address. Just
come and let us honor you.'
So he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham stepped
to the rostrum, looked at the crowd, and said,
"I'm reminded today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who
this month has been honored by Time magazine as the Man of the
Century.

Einstein was once traveling from Princeton on a train when the
conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every
passenger.

When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket.
He couldn't find his ticket, so he reached in his trouser
pockets. It wasn't there. He looked in his briefcase but
couldn't find it.
Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn't find
it.

"The conductor said, 'Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. We all
know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket. Don't worry
about it.'

"Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued down
the aisle punching tickets.
As he was ready to move to the next car, he turned around and
saw the great physicist down on his hands and knees looking
under his seat for his
ticket.

"The conductor rushed back and said, 'Dr. Einstein, Dr.
Einstein, don't worry, I know who you are; no problem. You don't
need a ticket. I'm sure you bought one.'

Einstein looked at him and said, 'Young man, I too, know who I
am.
What I don't know is where I'm going!''

Having said that Billy Graham continued,
"See the suit I'm wearing? It's a brand new suit.
My children, and my grandchildren are telling me I've gotten a
little slovenly in my old age.
I used to be a bit more fastidious.

So I went out and bought a new suit for this luncheon and one
more occasion.
You know what that occasion is?
This is the suit in which I'll be buried.

But when you hear I'm dead, I don't want you to immediately
remember the suit I'm wearing. I want you to remember this: I
not only know who I am.
I also know where I'm going!"

That was good. I think it'll be a good story to tell the kids
and grandkids who show up this Thanksgiving. :)

Do we also all know both who we are and where we
are going? We must certainly hope that we do or will soon learn
the answers to those questions. The time is short! The end is
near!

I don't know exactly where I'm going, and I can't say for sure I
know who I am. Should I worry about these things?
Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the
morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient
unto the day is the evil thereof.
If I fall, the angels will have to pick me up, I guess.
Psalm 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to
keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy
foot against a stone.

I take comfort in knowing that even if I don't know exactly who
I am, God knows all things.
Ps. 139:1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
As for where I am going, I find peace and comfort in knowing
that my life rests in God's hands and my soul belongs to Him,
that He will be with me.
Ps. 23:4 Even if I shall walk in the valleys of the shadows of
death, I will not be afraid of evil, because you are with me;
Ps. 139:7 Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
9 If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.

Surely this is starting to go off topic, but just today due to
another thread I began thinking of a description of who I am. It
seems to me that I am an individuated spark of God; or, in other
words: a piece of God with a consciousness.
And that is only by His grace.
There's more that could be said, but that would only cause
things to be more complicated.
As for where I am going... same as where I am now... within God.
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in
hell, behold, thou art there. Psalm 139:8
I do not really concern myself with where I am going. Seems I am
more concerned with this present moment... figuring that if it
is handled well by God's standards, then what follows for me
will also be well.
My life is in God's hands... He shall do with me as He pleases,
and I trust Him completely.

I have this foreboding too that were we ever to figure
everything out, we'd vanish. Some ignorance may be necessary to
keep us "apart" and "individuated."
Lies persist. A problem persists until the light bulb goes off
and we see what the lie was. When we see the truth, the problem
evaporates.

You mean other than just intellectually knowing, don't you.

Vanish? Yes, but they would still exist. The person who vanishes
from here becomes somewhere else that their vibration matches...
even if that somewhere is the pure potential that exists that
isn't 'anything' yet. LOL, but that then would truly be vanished
for all intents and purposes, except that it can yet still 'be'.
Like you say, in order to remain individuated we have to have
some ignorance, but other things accomplish this too. Not only
ignorance will maintain the individuality. Attachment also will
keep us apart... even if that attachment is love and compassion.
Then, there are those pre-birth agreements too. So, more than
just ignorance will keep us as individuals.
For some reason the idea of apathy has me thinking it would
cause nothingness.???

And that is exactly how it works.

You mean other than just intellectually knowing, don't
you.
Yes. The type of knowing that doesn't involve
mental gymnastics.

Oh, I think something could vanish completely out of existence
entirely.
Like you say, in order to remain individuated we have to
have some ignorance, but other things accomplish this too. Not
only ignorance will maintain the individuality.
The
idea of space is one -- but the idea of space also depends on
ignorance in a way since it implies "I am here" so my viewpoint
is limited.

of existence. One as an individual, or one can be part of a
group that achieves perfection of a sort that leaves nothing
more to be accomplished.
For some reason the idea of apathy has me thinking it
would cause nothingness.???
Apathy is, I'd say, a step above death where awareness is lost
and "self" becomes "dead" and "inert." Self exists but isn't
aware of it. I'd say that is the reason matter seems so solid
and "persists" so well.
