Daily Living during the Coronavirus Epidemic
By: HOLLAND Date: March 22, 2020, 9:18 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Most everyone that I know have sheltered down because of the
Coronavirus epidemic. It is interesting to hear that some
church congregations have defiantly refused to do so and some
have assembled for church services this morning. This seems to
be a flight from, and a refusal to accept the domestic hearth
church and its place in the scheme of things to that of the
ekklesia. Isn't it now the time to discover the value of
worship at home as well as that of the ekklesia?
There is the heartfelt wish among many to serve God in the
assembling together for worship. There also seems to be the
vanity, the pride, in not thinking that there are evils in the
world that may not touch believers. There is, in this worship,
an admixture of devotion and pride together. It now seems to be
that in this epidemic we must be humble and accept what may
happen to us. We are not our own. We shall become who we are
as we advance in our prayer life, and in humility, in the prayer
closet where no one else may see except God.
Now is the time of the domestic hearth church, the prayer
closet.
It could lead to disaster. Don't they know that the big
problem in South Korea was caused by a church? Its members
spread it all over.
I also wonder if the pastors of some churches rear the loss of
money if people stayed at home.

I never knew, Kerry, that a church helped spread the epidemic in
South Korea. From what I understand, the epidemic is well under
control in that country. They now have a better medical system
in many ways than the United States.

I think that they do. Since churches have to pay for utilities,
taxes and personnel, and also to maintain their capital
investment in buildings and other projects, they have to be
concerned about the tithe. Lean times mean "ramen noodle"
nights for the pastors and their families.
I suppose it's going to be really tough for pastors like Jim
Bakker. A lot of his older fans will no longer be able to
afford him. The money spigot may just dry up. :)

There is a second church under investigation now. The first one
is a cult, more or less, with a leader who claims to be the
second coming of Jesus. They had a funeral for his brother and
no one knows how many people attended, but it was a big number.
HTML https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51695649
The leader of a religious sect in South Korea will be
investigated over some of the country's coronavirus deaths.
The city government of the capital Seoul has asked prosecutors
to charge Lee Man-hee, the founder of the Shincheonji Church,
and 11 others.
They are accused of hiding the names of some members as
officials tried to track patients before the virus spread.
South Korea is battling the worst coronavirus outbreak outside
China.
The country has reported 3,730 cases and 21 deaths so far. More
than half of all infections involve members of the Shincheonji
Church of Jesus, a fringe Christian group.
Authorities say Shincheonji members infected one another in the
southern city of Daegu last month, before fanning out around the
country.
The second case involved sea water spray being used in a bottle
that got used on several people, likely spreading the virus.
HTML https://www.foxnews.com/world/coronavirus-south-korea-church-cluster-salt-water-spray-disinfectant
A new cluster of coronavirus has emerged at a church in South
Korea after members used a saltwater spray -- which they
believed prevented the spread of the virus -- but used the same
spray bottle on members without properly disinfecting the
nozzle, health officials acknowledged Monday.
Officials in the city of Seongnam, located in the Gyeonggi
Province south of Seoul, said 40 additional members of the River
of Grace Community Church have tested positive for COVID-19
after six members, including the pastor and his wife, were
confirmed in the past week to have the virus.
All of those infected may have attended the same service on
March 8, according to the Yonhap News Agency.
Video images released from the protestant church show a church
member sticking the nozzle of the spray bottle into several
church members.

^^^It's sad, Kerry, that this has happened in South Korea. I
suppose that when this epidemic is over, there is going to be
the political fallout of those politicians and institutions that
had failed in this crisis. It's going to be a sad spectacle, as
sad as the numbers of people dying in the epidemic.
Masks and protective equipment is now running short in places.
I suspect that respirators will become scarce soon. If Trump
fails to act now, it will be too late for America and we'll go
into the full terrible effects of the epidemic medically and
economically.
Supposedly, Trump's lack of taking leadership in this crisis is
because he's afraid of accepting the responsibility for that
leadership if he fails. He would prefer to blame governors of
states and mayors for any failures if that happens. People are
complaining Trump doesn't seem to grasp or want to grasp the
extent of this crisis. Trump's lying to himself, and, if
possible, to others, is his only way to deal with the reality he
cannot face.
I wonder if this will be the time of reckoning for Trump and
others who've spent decades warring against the truth, in utter
contempt of it. We shall see.

Churches are now having services on the internet and some are
very worthy of being looked into. The following Evensong
service of the Washington National Cathedral (Episcopalian) has
splendid music and spiritual purpose. I think you'll all like
it very much! :)

I've not heard music like this for a long time. Be sure to
watch it to the end. You'll not be sorry if you do! :D

I quite like the church services being online, I haven’t been
able to attend church for some years now ( because of choice and
work commitments ) I am having to have 14 days off work as my
son showed symptoms of the virus, as I work in a care home I
cannot take the risk, just in case. It’s quite nice having a
break ( not going to lie about that ) So it’s been a time of
reflection and ihave space and time to catch up.
I heard about the church / cult in Korea - Iguess many may feel
that they will be protected because they appear to have God on
their side - what happened to the cult leader ,do you know ?
You have your share of worries. I hope your son has a
cold and not the virus. Some people have the virus and never
get symptoms but can still spread it. That would be a big
danger for you working in a care home.
A minister from one of the churches here got together with a
drive-in movie theater. They invited other ministers from
other churches to participate too. So now instead of going into
a church, people can sit in their cars and listen to the
ministers talking on their car radios.
I haven't heard what happened to the guy who runs that church.
He says he's the returned Jesus Christ. There was another
church in Korea that believed salt water would stop the virus.
They were spraying salt water out of a bottle into people's
mouths -- and using the same bottle over and over without
disinfecting it.
Story here:
HTML https://www.foxnews.com/world/coronavirus-south-korea-church-cluster-salt-water-spray-disinfectant
A new cluster of coronavirus has emerged at a church in South
Korea after members used a saltwater spray -- which they

I heard one leader of a mega-church got arrested for holding a
service in Florida. The man strikes me as not all there to begin
with. I think maybe people go to hear him for amusement. He
was talking about how if you had faith, your toilet paper
wouldn't run out. People went so crazy here, they rushed to
stores and bought up all the toilet paper. Why? Who knows, but
they did. Then some stores had empty shelves. I can't take the
guy seriously. I laughed and that's when I wondered if people
went to his church for laughs.
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kzkkuYvFY8
So some religious people objected to that minister being
arrested; and the governor of Florida declared churches were
"essential businesses" so they could stay open. I couldn't
believe it -- a governor declaring churches are businesses?
HTML https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-04-01-20-intl/h_b2d27eeaa15e3e082511fb168c63575d
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said religious services conducted in
churches, synagogues and houses of worship are “essential
business” and therefore exempt from this stay-at-home executive
order announced this afternoon.
I could see saying churches are essential, but why call them
businesses?
I understand too that come Christians are concerned about
"assembling" together since Paul said it was important; but the
same people ignore other things Paul wrote. Do people kiss
each other with "holy kisses"? Imagine doing that today with
the coronavirus around.

Drive in Churches, that’s sounds great - of course we are too
small to do that here, we don’t have drive ins anyway !!lol Two
of my sons, my daughter in law all had some symptoms of the
virus, the heaviness on the chest being the one that stands out
- they all described it as ‘ having a brick on their chest ‘ as
this was amongst the first symptoms they got, I do wonder if
they have had mild forms of the virus - I felt unwell for a few
days, and felt as if I was fighting something off, but so far
nothing has materialised. Yes, I was concerned about being a
carrier- so staying off 14 days was not a bad idea anyway. The
only way we will know for sure is when the anti body tests
become available- or perhaps if we later get far worse symptoms-
Although I see the point about ‘ gathering together ‘ , the
reality is that we live in an age where we can actually do that
online , so in theory it doesn’t justify staying open and the
whole issue of being wise comes into play - I guess many who
take in quite a lot of money may be concerned that their income
will also decline - but maybe that side of things does need to
be challenged anyway!
Yes, I heard about the second group in Korea - so you have put a
link to Fox News- are they not suppose to be the news channel
that is always making things up !?
The toilet paper thing was happening in so many countries, along
with pasta , but not with things that you add to pasta - well
that wasn’t until the real panic buying went into full swing the
moment they mentioned lockdown - that was so crazy !
Helen mentioned that some toilet paper was imported from China -
maybe a fear of getting the virus if they waited for later
supplies, or perhaps fear of running out because of China’s
lockdown - but that made no sense over here because we produce
our own.
I did hear about people being convinced that corona beer was
somehow a threat with passing on the virus in the USA, slightly
worrying if that was true- it much intelligence used in that
equation, and also how many people looked at medical bottles and
because it stated coronvirus on the list of things it helps,
many were convinced we knew about it years ago - once again not
understanding the full meaning of coronvirus, maybe I would have
fell for that one had I not had a bit of understanding of ‘
umbrella ‘ terms- we have that with demencia , which is a
umbrella term, under it comes so many different kinds , but
people think demencia is one thing.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone. The last line about being
