       Real Madrid CF

Here you go, Hope - - a thread all about Real and it's about
time that they had one here since they're truly a monstrous
presence on the global sporting scene in general and impossible
to ignore at least in soccer-world. Plus, now that Cristiano's
gone, it's less about this club in another thread. Nicknamed:
Los Vikingos (The Vikings), Madrid Football Club, Los Blancos
(The Whites), Los Merengues (The Meringues).
So, I watched part of the match between Real and Celta Vigo on
Sunday. Celta scored first and then Real came back to score
twice and I turned my TV off figuring game over, especially by
the way Real were suffocating Celta. Real were playing superb
football, the like I've rarely seen from any club this season.
Yet, lo and behold, to my surprise when I checked the score
later, the match ended in a 2-2 draw and I saw that Celta had
scored again on a counter. I could hardly believe it since by
the manner of Real's play, they surely deserved to win this
match at home. Celta fought hard because they are close to
       relegation.
Eden Hazard has returned and played about 73 minutes of the Vigo
match. He drew a penalty in the Vigo box which Ramos buried by
penalty-kick into the Celta net. This is a formidable attacking
       side peaking now.
This leaves Real just one point above FC Barcelona in the table.
There's a Clasico coming up March 1, 3 pm at the Bernabeu. Real
will be a troubling handful for Barca and I'm less confident now
than ever that Barca can come out with three points as I'd wish
they do. Barca will have to be at the top of their game to beat
them. The last Clasico was a dreary 0-0 result at the Nou Camp
with both sides cancelling each other out, but this is a
       different, healthy Real now.
Real plays a possibly desperate Manchester City in a Champions
League match on the 26th of this month.

may be a while before they get another shot at this.

It's Manchester City FC banned, not Manchester United. The
latter has enough problems of its own in spite of beating
       Chelsea on Monday :(.

^ Do I have this straight yet? The club that is facing the ban
is the one set to play Real also?
I see there is some scrap going on between Guardiola and the
President of Barcelona who couldn't resist weighing in.

In the aftermath of that ruling, both Guardiola and Manchester
City have vigorously defended the club, with all involved
insisting that the club is innocent and will serve no ban.
Bartomeu, meanwhile, defended his own club following their own
recent controversy as Barcelona's president denied reports that
a social media contractor was hired to discredit Lionel Messi,
Pep Guardiola and others associated with the Catalan side.In
addition to that denial, Bartomeu congratulated UEFA for their
ruling following the Manchester City announcement while stating
       his support of FFP rules.
"It is a club in which there are traditions, owned by 144,000
members, and it is a club in which democratic principles and
freedom of expression are held deep within. It is a club run
       with rigour, always," Bartomeu said.
Naturally Guardiola couldn't remain silent after that.
On Wednesday, Guardiola snapped back at his former club, firing
a thinly-veiled shot at Bartomeu in the process.
“I don't know if they spy on me but they know me, it's not
necessary to spy on me,” Guardiola said following Manchester
City's 2-0 win over West Ham.
“If they're happy that we are suspended I would say to the
president of Barca to give us two appeals. I ask right now that
the people trust what they (City) have done.
I would think Guardiola has his hands full trying to maintain
morale. I'd give Real the edge on the 26th.

I'm not sure what you mean by "also". Manchester City FC is set
to play Real Madrid in a Round of 16 UEFA Champions League first
leg next week on February 26, 3 pm EST at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Manchester United FC plays Club Brugge (of Belgium) today in a
Europa League match. Man U didn't qualify for the Champions
League as a result of their finish in the EPL last season.

Bartomeu ought to have well stayed out of his public comments
over the Man City ban. He has enough problems with his own club.
Plus, Guardiola is still admired and respected in Barcelona. And
Bartomeu wouldn't mind having Pep back.
I give the edge to Real because they're playing superbly lately.
They should be scoring many more goals. It should be an
       interesting two legs.

The fault's mine I now realize for misreading your "also". I had
thought you perhaps meant that Real was playing Man U too, thus
       my reiteration.
Ya, Hazard played well for 73 minutes then subbed off. I only
saw about half-an-hour of it. I'd say that he's the second best
dribbler in soccer. It sucks that he decided to leave Chelsea
       but sport goes on :).

Sarri also seems to be doing fairly fine -- although the fans
whistle at times. The problem he has with fans!
I see, by the way, that Chelsea lost to Manchester United 0- 2.
Are they struggling to hang onto the number 4 spot?

What I didn't like was that Sarri went to Juve. He's a
Neopolitan. There's a big rivalry between these two clubs and
I'm a Napoli fan. And there's no Sarriball being played at Juve.
Why? Try telling Dybala, Mandzukic ,and Ronaldo that they have
to adapt their game to his. Sarri's basically benched Mandzukic.
I don't blame Sarri for leaving Chelsea by the way he was
       treated there.

Indeed they are. They're inconsistent. If they end up in a
Champions League spot, I'll consider Lampard's first year a
success. But Chelsea ought to be winning the League at least
soon after. This club has a mentality of excellence.

       ADDENDUM: ^
Olivier! Chelsea 2 Tottenham 1 today.:
Chelsea struck a significant blow in the fight for the top four
places in the Premier League with a fully deserved victory over
       Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
In a confrontation billed as a battle between Frank Lampard and
his old mentor Jose Mourinho, Spurs could have leapfrogged
Chelsea with victory but were outplayed and are now adrift by
       four points.
Lampard made four changes from the team that lost 2-0 at home to
Manchester United on Monday and they paid rich dividends as they
all made a contribution to only their second win in seven league
       games.
Olivier Giroud, in for Michy Batshuayi with Tammy Abraham on the
bench after injury, fired low past Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris for
Chelsea's opener in the 15th minute after the recalled Ross
       Barkley hit the post.
And all four of those brought into the team linked up for
Chelsea's second three minutes after the break as Giroud's flick
found Mason Mount, who played in Barkley. He produced a
perfectly weighted pass to Marcos Alonso, who did not even break
stride before a sweet finish past Lloris.
Spurs' day could have been even worse as Giovani lo Celso should
have been sent off for a dreadful second-half challenge on
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The video assistant referee
decided against punishment, although officials in Stockley Park
later admitted a mistake had been made and he should have been
       sent off.
Mourinho's side gave themselves late hope when Erik Lamela's
shot deflected in off Antonio Rudiger but in reality Spurs
deserved nothing and Chelsea were worthy winners.:

Chelsea can play some "brilliant" football often-times.
Eye-candy soccer like other clubs I dig. If they can only hold
       onto that 4th spot!
