       Presidential Race 2020
By: Kerry Date: April 3, 2019, 12:27 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Mayor Buttigieg is no fan of Mike Pence. He asked someone not
to judge the state of Indiana by Pence. Now he's taken another
crack at him. From The Hill
  HTML https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/437092-buttigieg-idea-that-god-wants-pence-to-be-vp-gives-seems-to-me-to-give-god:
Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg said in a
recent interview that Vice President Pence’s reported belief
that God wants him to be vice president and Donald Trump to be
president seems to give God “very little credit.”
The South Bend, Ind., mayor was pressed on the issue during a
discussion Father Edward Beck, a Roman Catholic priest and
on-air faith and religion commentator for CNN.
Buttigieg said in response that “the idea that God wants
somebody like Mike Pence to be the cheerleader for a president
largely known for his association with hush money to adult-film
actresses seems to me to give God very little credit.”
He also questioned if Trump believes in God. From Mediatite
  HTML https://www.mediaite.com/trump/mayor-buttigieg-its-hard-to-look-at-trumps-actions-and-think-he-believes-in-god/:
Presidential candidate and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said
during his interview with USA Today that it is hard to look at
the actions of President Donald Trump and think he believes in
       God.
“I’m reluctant to comment on another person’s faith, but I would
say it is hard to look at this president’s actions and believe
that they’re the actions of somebody who believes in God,”
       Buttigieg said.
“I just don’t understand how you can be as worshipful of your
own self as he is and be prepared to humble yourself before God.
I’ve never seen him humble himself before anyone. And the
exaltation of yourself, especially a self that’s about wealth
and power, could not be more at odds with at least my
understanding of the teachings of the Christian faith,” he
       added.

I heard Bernie Sanders explaining how he got rich. He used his
       usual grouchy tone.
  HTML https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/13/politics/bernie-sanders-millionaire-book-sales-tax-returns/index.html
Sen. Bernie Sanders on Saturday rejected suggestions that his
growing nest egg, mostly amassed from book sales following his
2016 campaign, undermines his political message.
"I didn't know that it was a crime to write a good book which
turns out to be a bestseller," Sanders said at a community
       meeting in Gary, Indiana.
Since Sanders described himself as a millionaire earlier this
week, he and his campaign have stressed that his policy
platform, which is fiercely critical of "billionaires" and
wealthy corporate interests, like private insurers and
pharmaceutical companies, is unchanged. His Medicare for All
push has been colored by relentless attacks on those industries.
What can I say? I remember that Donald Trump said he might be
the first person to make money running for President.
       April 3, 2000
  HTML http://fortune.com/2000/04/03/what-does-donald-trump-really-want/
Trump had inked a deal with Tony Robbins, the frighteningly
upbeat motivational speaker, by which Robbins would pay Trump $1
million to give ten speeches at his seminars around the country.
Crucially, Trump had timed his political stops to coincide with
Robbins’ seminars, so that he was “making a lot of money” on
those campaign stops. “It’s very possible that I could be the
first presidential candidate to run and make money on it,” Trump
said, adding that “there’s no way a good businessman” would have
blown the kind of money Steve Forbes had. I wondered whether
Trump was proposing his own special version of campaign finance
reform here. I also wondered where he was planning to come up
with the $100 million he was promising to spend if nominated,
considering that his cash flow seemed much more precarious than
       he claimed.
If I frowned at the idea of Trump making money by running for
President, I think I should frown at Sanders too. I don't know
if Trump made money at it, but Sanders did!
       Can he win?
  HTML https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2019/04/28/bernie-sanders-likable-enough-become-president/svONYPDuGqprm1gdD56cXO/story.html
Afterward, several attendees described Sanders as “agitated,”
       “frustrated,” and seemingly underprepared.
“He was the same cantankerous person that he always is,” said
Marsha Jones, 58, who runs a reproductive health organization in
Dallas. “If he could just work on his — if he was a doctor,
they’d say his bedside manner — it would probably help him a
       lot.”
Sanders, 77, has never worried much about “likability,” a vague
term that is often lobbed at female candidates, to question
whether their personality and demeanor can win over voters. In
fact, to many voters, his gruff manner is evidence of his
authenticity and deep commitment to his convictions.
I think it's fair to "lob" that at female candidates if they're
too shrill, and I think it's fair to "lob" it at Sanders. No
one gets points from me for being a grouch. I want someone who
is calm and who knows how to work with others. Sanders may
appeal to frustrated Democrats on the extreme left; but I doubt
he would have much appeal for undecided voters. Imagine though
having to choose between two grouches in the next election.
I also find Sanders' idea to allow felons in prison to vote
ridiculous. We could all go to prison and vote for people that
give us goodies while in prison. I think felons should be
allowed to vote if they keep a good record for so many years
after they served their time and parole, maybe five years. I
believe in rewarding good behavior not bad. Sanders is being
cynical anyway since I think the states have the say-so on such
things. It also strikes me as a silly proposition since felons
in prison now can't vote for him. He might get friends and
relatives of people in prison to vote for him, but felons in
       prison now can't.
He's pandering for support. . . where there are no votes.
       Ridiculous.

The Free Beacon is stirring things up again. Remember the Free
Beacon that was so against Trump, they started the whole
       Trump-Russian dossier thing?
  HTML https://ijr.com/report-shows-men-are-paid-more-than-women-in-kamala-harris-office/
Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) may have wanted to check the
books in her own office before announcing her strict plan to end
the “wage gap” if she becomes president.
As IJR reported on Monday, Harris announced a strict plan that
aims to close the wage gap in the United States. The senator’s
presidential proposal would require that businesses provide
their payroll to the federal government. Employees in the same
position must be paid the same unless the company can prove
significant differences in seniority or merit.
If a company can’t meet the threshold of justification for their
wage differences, they will face massive fines — a point Harris
       bragged about repeatedly.
She's obviously trying to get women to vote for her.
Unfortunately for women in Harris’ Senate office, the total
compensation gap for her staff is 94 cents on the dollar.
According to a report from the Washington Free Beacon, the
median male salary disbursement was $34,999 and the median
       female salary disbursement was $32,999.
That compensation gap is even more pronounced on Harris’
presidential campaign. Using her financial documents from her
first month on the campaign trail, the Beacon found that women
were paid only 87 cents for the dollar earned by a man. By the
second month of her campaign, that gap had shrunk, but there was
       still a five cent disparity.
Well, there's been some progress, but perhaps Harris needs
someone in the federal government to make sure she's paying
       women the same as men.
The Free Beacon must be investigating Harris. They also
recently had a piece about her brother-in-law. Harris had
criticized Biden over a crime bill he sponsored in the Senate.
       Guess what!
  HTML https://freebeacon.com/politics/kamala-harriss-brother-in-law-helped-write-1994-crime-bill/
The 1994 crime bill Kamala Harris attacked on Wednesday was
       crafted by her brother-in-law.
Harris criticized the crime bill during a stop in New Hampshire
as a way of criticizing former vice president Joe Biden. Harris
said the bill contributed to "mass incarceration in our
country," established the "federal three strikes law," and
"funded the building of more prisons in the states."
Biden was the bill's lead sponsor in the Senate, but working on
it in the Clinton administration was Harris's brother-in-law
Tony West, who is married to Maya Harris, Kamala Harris's sister
and her campaign chair. West, a former Obama administration
official, also chaired Kamala Harris's transition team after she
was elected to the Senate in 2016.
West chose to feature his work on the crime bill in 2012 when he
was nominated to be associate attorney general. It was the chief
achievement he listed for his two years working as a special
assistant under former attorney general Janet Reno.
"From 1993 through 1994, I served as a Special Assistant in the
U.S. Department of Justice," West wrote in his official
questionnaire to the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Under the
direction of U.S. Deputy Attorneys General Philip Heymann and
Jamie Gorelick, as well as Attorney General Janet Reno, I worked
on the development of national crime policy, including the 1994
       Omnibus Crime Bill."
The work was also featured in his biography when former attorney
general Eric Holder hired him in 2009. "West worked on the
development of national crime policy, including the 1994 Omnibus
Crime Bill," a DOJ press release stated.
West's current biography at Uber, where he is a senior vice
president, makes no mention of the bill.
Good grief, look at how she likes to hire family members. I
wonder how much they got paid? At least, Ivanka Trump and
Jared Kushner are working for free. Call me naive, but I think
politicians should hire the best people they can for jobs; and I
doubt that family members are often hired because they're the
       best people.
Hasn't Harris ever heard that people who live in glass houses
should not throw stones? I suspect there will be more
revelations about her. She doesn't seem to think things through
       too thoroughly before talking.
Then too her relationship with Willie Brown smacks of sleeping
with a man as a way of getting to the top. It doesn't make too
much of a difference to me if Brown's wife didn't care and that
the three of them sometimes went on dates together.
  HTML https://www.foxnews.com/politics/former-san-francisco-mayor-addresses-past-relationship-with-sen-kamala-harris
Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown addressed his past
extramarital relationship with U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris in his
weekly column Saturday, saying he may have boosted the
       presidential hopeful's career.
"Yes, we dated. It was more than 20 years ago," Brown wrote in
       the San Francisco Chronicle.
"Yes, I may have influenced her career by appointing her to two
state commissions when I was [California] Assembly speaker. And
I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in
       San Francisco."
       It raises ugly questions.
Brown, 84, pointed out that he also helped the careers of other
prominent California Democrats, such as U.S. House Speaker Nancy
Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
"The difference is that Harris is the only one who, after I
helped her, sent word that I would be indicted if I 'so much as
jaywalked' while she was D.A.,” Brown wrote. "That's politics
       for ya."
Brown appointed Harris -- about 30 years younger than Brown and
just a few years out of law school – to two well-paid state
commission assignments on the Unemployment Insurance Appeals
Board and the California Medical Assistance Commission, the
       Washington Free Beacon reported.
I find it easier to believe Brown helped these three based on
merit. Helping a woman that much younger than you who's willing
to date you is something else.
       The Free Beacon story
  HTML https://freebeacon.com/politics/willie-brown-admits-he-boosted-kamala-harriss-career/<br
       />has another interesting detail:
Harris defended her decision to take the posts Brown got for her
in her 2003 interview with SF Weekly despite her lack of
       experience.
"Whether you agree or disagree with the system, I did the work,"
she said. "I brought a level of life knowledge and common sense
       to the jobs."
Brown also reportedly gifted Harris with a BMW in 1994. He is 31
       years older than Harris.
So did she do any "work" for the BMW? Somehow she does not
impress me as a shining example of how women should be able to
get ahead in the workplace and deserve equal pay for equal work.
She reminds me of Hillary Clinton.
The time has arrived that women should stop sleeping with men to
get favors at work. It needs to stop. We can't complain about
men wanting sexual favors from women in return for favors if
there are women who seem to like the game.
Does it matter? Probably not much since I don't think she'll be
       the nominee.

On David Letterman it was shown (correction, not that he said

Yes I agree. I worked at a place where pets were groomed. I
