Bedbugs
By: guest6 Date: November 7, 2018, 12:11 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I've been living here in this apartment for almost three years
and haven't had to deal with the threat of bedbugs. The
apartment at the end of the hall was vacant for a few months and
then someone moved in and shortly after I saw this huge machine
sitting outside her apartment. Well, it doesn't exactly take a
rocket scientist to figure out what that was for. And later
reports confirmed that her apartment was being treated for
bedbugs.
So I called to the office downstairs. I live in a 15 story
apartment building on the 15th floor. I made that call because
first of all, I didn't know how long this woman had bedbugs
before her apartment was treated and I was concerned about the
bedbugs spreading to other apartments. Now the person I was
speaking to was the Administrator here and she said to me, "I
don't have time for gossip". They also say there is a
confidentiality thing with not disclosing who has bedbugs. I was
not asking for the name of anybody who had bedbugs. I could
clearly see the machine at the end of the hall being used to
treat bedbugs in that apartment. I was trying to ask what is
being done to prevent the spread of bedbugs to other apartments.
I was concerned not only for myself but also for my neighbors on
this floor. And I was told I was gossiping and she hung up on
me.
We were not given any warning about a bedbug infestation in an
apartment on this floor. No warning at all so that we could at
least take some precautions to prevent those bedbugs from
spreading into our apartments. So yesterday, my neighbor right
next door to me told me that she now has bedbugs in her
apartment and they still haven't treated her apartment for
bedbugs. She said she was going to have to go to her daughter's
place because she is just being eaten up with these bedbugs, she
can't sleep at all. This is what I was so concerned about when I
called the office about this.
So I have been trying to take precautions and doing everything I
know to do to prevent bedbugs from now coming into my apartment.
I have sprayed pest control sprays inside and out of my
apartment to the point that I was choking and coughing from it.
I looked on online and found that wintergreen alcohol will kill
bedbugs on contact. Also it mentioned tea tree oil and steam
machines. I have been spraying the wintergreen alcohol inside
and out of my apartment. I have ordered a zippered bedbug proof
mattress cover. My son is going to get some bedbug killer bombs
and set them off. I will have to stay with him a few days.
I also called the Housing Authority because they are the ones
who make inspections in all the apartments. I may be kicked out
because I called them but the Administration here isn't stopping
the bedbug infestation. Most people who live here are disabled
and elderly.
i'm just wondering if anyone has some suggestions that I haven't
tried to not only keep the bedbugs from getting into my
apartment but also how to kill and eliminate them. I know that
if I do get bedbugs that it is going to be very hard to get rid
of them and I can't pay a pest control company. I called one
yesterday and they said it would be at least $250 just to do the
inspection. That doesn't count the treatment costs. I know that
I will have to wash all the bedding and clothes that I wear etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am very upset about this. My son just told me that he talked
to a friend at a pest control company about me. This is what my
son told me that the guy said to him, "Your mother is a very
brave woman and I wouldn't want to be on her bad side." My son
said he thought that was funny because he knows me so well.
I also went down to the office after trying to call and being
told that I was gossiping and being hung up on. I was going
downstairs anyway to pay my rent and mail a bill and put it in
the mail drop box. I went over to the office door and asked the
lady in that first office who I have good rapport with if I
could talk to her a few minutes out in the lobby and I was
trying to keep my voice low as I talked to her. Basically I told
her all the things I've already mentioned in this post along
with a few other things including having a man make advances to
me in the elevator. ::) She gave me a form to fill out to file
a complaint about that. But as far as the bed bug thing, she
wasn't very helpful. Because she's not the Administrator and I
guess she was trying to be careful with what she said to me
about that. But I let her know in no uncertain terms that I did
not appreciate being told that I was gossiping because that was
not my intention. I also told her that I didn't think the bed
bug problem was being handled the right way because obviously
the bed bugs are spreading down the hall to other apartments and
my neighbor's apartment still hasn't been treated. I made it
clear that I was not a happy camper, to put it mildly. So I'm
sure she passed along all I had said to the Administrator.
I just now had another neighbor who has a friend who works at
the Heath Department who she said that she is going to contact
about this bedbug infestation being allowed to get out of
control putting so many people at risk. I'm hoping something
will be done that way but I don't know, maybe it won't be.

I don't know, Heartsong, but there's some electronic device you
plug into a wall that emits a high-pitched noise that humans
can't hear that might drive them away. The thing is, a landlord
probably won't want to have his place known as bedbug city when
words gets around since he'll have a hard time renting vacant
apartments. I'd just keep bugging him (no pun intended) about it
since sometimes it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Do those kind of electrical devices hurt pets?
I don't think they're too happy about me speaking up about this.
I might just get evicted. I'll still stand up for what I believe
is right not only for me but for all the tenants here.
I really didn't appreciate being told that I was gossiping. That
is not what I was doing. I guess they have to come up with some
excuse other than the truth though.
I've decided not to use bombs because there are vents to other
people's apartments and those chemicals from those bombs can
hurt people. I can't do that. I'll have to think of something
else to use.

It might bother pets. I'm not vouching for it, just what I

The word is that a lot of people are moving out because of the
bedbug problem. I wasn't aware of how bad it was throughout the
building but several people have told me, well didn't you know
that's the reason why so many people have moved out? I really
didn't know before now.

It says at the bottom of the page that it's safe for pets.
Our technology changes the electromagnetic frequencies that
travel through the wiring of your home into pulsating
vibrations. The shifting frequencies are completely safe for
you, pets and electronics, but irritate the nervous system of
rodents and disrupt the receptors of insects nesting within the
walls and cracks of your home.
Cats have very sensitive hearing. I don't think that would be
good for my cat. I appreciate the recommendation though.
I'm sort of weighing the idea of moving out of this apartment. I
really hate the thought of moving because of what it all
involves. But if I can find a suitable place that accepts pets
then I might move. Just something I'm considering. Of course if
they evict me I won't have a choice.

Yeah makes my skin crawl too. I just hope I don't get them. I'm
trying hard to battle them off.

I was wondering if borax works for bedbugs. I know it works for
roaches since it did for me. It took a while to kill them all,
but it did. I found a site that says it works for bedbugs. I
believe it since I know it worked with roaches.
HTML https://pestkilled.com/is-borax-effective-for-bed-bugs/
Borax is an effective treatment for bed bugs. It works to
suffocate and kill the bed bugs. To use borax to rid yourself of
these pests, remove all of the bedding from the bed. Sprinkle a
generous amount of borax over the entire mattress, and fill up a
plastic spray bottle with water. Saturate the borax covered
mattress with the water. This helps suffocate the bed bugs and
kill them.
You can also wash any bedding, sheets, and blankets with a
mixture of hot water and borax to remove the bed bugs from those
items.
The site also says a few other things work:
We know what doesn’t work to kill bed bugs. Foggers, bombs, and
traditional sprays don’t really do much to get rid of these
insects. Since bed bugs live deep inside mattresses and bedding
and the bugs are so small, foggers and sprays can’t really
penetrate well enough to kill the bugs. Avoid wasting time and
money using these types of methods to kill bed bugs. There are
only a couple of ways to effectively eradicate a bed bug
infestation.
One is using borax. The other methods involve either throwing
away infected items, like mattresses, and purchasing new ones,
or using extreme hot or cold temperatures (like washing things
in hot water, or freezing them) to kill the pests. You can also
use borax to kill the bugs in your carpet by sprinkling it into
carpet and vacuuming it up.
Diatomaceous earth is another known way to kill bed bugs. You
can sprinkle this inside and outside, leaving it under your bed
and other furniture, along the baseboards, and underneath your
mattress. It’s safe to use and is an effective treatment.
For a pesky case of bed bugs, combining steam treatments with
other treatments, such a borax or diatomaceous earth, may
provide the desired results. Using a steamer on your mattress
and furniture kills the bed bugs, but you must use this in
combination with other methods to completely rid yourself of bed
bugs.
Good luck! Little critters can make life miserable.

Was the borax harmful to your cats?

So the foggers don't work. The insect sprays don't work. I've
been using insect sprays. So I guess that was a waste of money.
But I'm going to return the foggers for a refund. I've even
thought about using my iron to kill bedbugs. I mean that's heat.
If Borax isn't toxic I can put it on the carpet and under the
bed and on top of the mattress.

Yeah. They can make your life miserable. I haven't had a bed bug
problem since I was a child.
