The Virgin Mary Gloria Matri Blessing
By: HOLLAND Date: May 30, 2017, 7:52 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Among Catholics the veneration of the Virgin Mary has become
quite strident, as one can see on Youtube. This is going to
have reprecussions in worship among Roman Catholics, I think.
       It may affect traditional prayers.
For example, there is the traditional prayer, The Gloria Patri
in Christianity, which is the doxology:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world
       without end. Amen.
But now that some Roman Catholics are strongly pressing the Pope
to declare Mary as Co-mediatrix and Co-redemptrix, perhaps some
Catholics will think that this doxology should be revised.
Given that Mary is viewed by them as another intercessor,
perhaps the Holy Spirit could be dropped from the doxology; and,
also, given the Catholic doctrine of alter Christi that Catholic
Priests and Popes are other Christs, perhaps the Father could
also be dropped as well. If we have fathers in the world, we do
not, it would seem, need to pray to a Father in heaven.
Then Catholics could propose a Gloria Matri doxology, such as
       the following:
Glory be to the Holy Father, and to the Blessed Mother, and to
baby Jesus. As it was, as it is now and as it ever shall be,
       world without end. Amen.
I suppose among some Catholics that this would be spiritually
satisfying. For the rest of us, I think, it would be
       unsatisfying . . .

History tells us that the Gloria goes back only to the Fourth
Century. For me, it's not part of Tradition but an innovation.

I doubt they'll change it. Every time they change something,
it erodes the claim that they have preserved things they
received from Tradition. I could be wrong, of course, since
       they changed the Apostles Creed.

I've never been able to understand such heavy emphasis on
"virgin Mary" in the Catholic Church.

Is the new prayer put forward by someone in the Catholic
       hierarchy or is it imaginary?
       para . . . .
