       Mountain and Valley!
By: Runner Date: October 2, 2012, 10:52 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Quote..
"If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us" Mark
       9:22
After times of exaltation, we are brought down with a sudden
rush into things as they really are, where it is neither
beautiful, poetic, nor thrilling. The height of the mountaintop
is measured by the dismal drudgery of the valley, but it is in
the valley that we have to live for the glory of God.
We see His glory on the mountain, but we never live for His
       glory there.
It is in the place of humiliation that we find our true worth
to God— that is where our faithfulness is revealed. Most
of us can do things if we are always at some heroic level of
intensity, simply because of the natural selfishness of our own
hearts. God wants us to be at the everyday level, where we live
in the valley according to our personal relationship with Him.
Peter thought it would be a wonderful thing for them to remain
on the mountain, but Jesus Christ took the disciples down from
the mountain and into the valley, where the true meaning of The
       Vision was explained.
       “If you can do anything . . . .”
It takes the valley of humiliation to remove the skepticism from
us. We look back at our own experience and we will find that
until we learned who Jesus really was, we were a skillful
       skeptic about His power.
When we were on the mountaintop we could believe anything, but
what about when we were faced with the facts of the valley?

That reminds me of a passage from the Tao Te Ching. To them,
Heaven is masculine and earth is feminine.
Know the masculine, hold to the feminine
Be the watercourse of the world
Being the watercourse of the world
The eternal virtue does not depart
Return to the state of the infant
Know the white, hold to the black
Be the standard of the world
Being the standard of the world
The eternal virtue does not deviate
Return to the state of the boundless
Know the honor, hold to the humility
Be the valley of the world
Being the valley of the world
The eternal virtue shall be sufficient
Return to the state of plain wood
Plain wood splits, then becomes tools
The mountain tops have inspiring moments, to be sure; but we
       "bear fruit" in the valleys.
Hold the black? To me that means realize we are empty
       nothingness waiting for the light.
PS I didn't know who Oswald Chambers was. I found an article at
       Wikipedia
  HTML http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_Chambers.
       The article was
interesting, but I found this amazing:
Chambers died 15 November 1917 in Egypt as the result of a
ruptured appendix. He suffered the extreme pain of appendicitis
for three days before seeking medical attention, refusing to
take a hospital bed needed by wounded soldiers.

       I didn't know that.What dedication...I wonder if I could have
       done that!
I think He was Canadian from Toronto....for years and years I
read his daily devotional " My Upmost For His Highest."
It is written somewhat in archaic English so a bit hard to
read...I tried the new updated modern version, but it lacked his
flavour, so I gave up...I have only just gone back again to
looking at some of his messages and enjoying them. 8)

I was impressed by that. I also don't know if I could done it.
The Wikipedia article said he was originally from Scotland but
traveled about. You can click on the link I gave if you want
to read the article. It's not that long, but I found it
interesting. He had not planned on becoming a minister. I
       found that interesting too.

Loved this opening post, and the Tao post too.
Heart warming and inspiring. Shows the contentment possible.

^ I wonder if it pleased God to bruise him? To remove the
instincts of the flesh that wants to live, even if it has to
kill others to live? I rather think so. This may be seen as
suffering in a way; but in another way, it's the dying of
something that needs to die so it can be reborn again as
       something better.
Sometimes I think we may learn from the lives of the saints as
much as from what they said.

any past errors or shortcomings were covered in these final
       three days of his life.
1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among
yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
It looks to me as if he took up his cross and followed Jesus.
