Alcohol Sales Up

Make America Great Again! Go figure! Alcohol sales are up and
it's because of the Millennials according to WFLA

/>
(WFLA) — For the seventh year in a row, the liquor industry beat
out the beer market and continues to gain sales.
According to data released from the Distilled Spirits Council of
the United States, booze is crazy popular.
Liquor sales to suppliers went up over five percent, to reach
over $25 billion last year. The Council said every day customers
who purchased alcohol spent a whopping $78 billion in 2016.
Distilled Spirits Council President and CEO, Kraig R. Naasz,
said the boom is liquor sales is from “a growing audience of
adult millennials.”
American whiskey is also on the up and up, and this year it
reached over six percent of a boost in sales. While whiskey is
still gaining new fans, vodka sales won the majority snagging
one-third of all sales.
Tequila lovers continue to grow as well with volumes up seven
percent.
According to the Council drinking in general is rising because
American whiskey is trendy, millennials love cocktails, and
local distilleries are the new hot spot.
But there's more to the picture! Americans are not buying
American as much according to Time
HTML http://time.com/money/4662433/alcohol-import-sales-us-strong-dollar/:<br
/>
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that alcohol imports
in the U.S. rose 6% last year, reaching $17 billion through the
first 11 months of 2016. Once the final numbers are tabulated,
2016 will likely go down as the biggest year for alcohol import
sales in more than two decades.
Meanwhile, sales of domestic alcoholic beverages—California
wines, Kentucky whiskeys, numerous craft beer brands, and
more—were up a mere 2% last year, representing the slowest
growth in four years.
At first glance, you might assume that American consumers have
been buying more imported alcohol because prices have dropped.
Oddly enough, that's not the case. While wholesale prices for
imports have retreated by way of the stronger U.S. dollar, these
savings have not been passed along to customers in the form of
cheaper French wines, Mexican beer, Irish whiskey, and such.
"For the most part, the stronger dollar hasn’t yet translated
into cheaper alcohol for the American consumer," the Journal
noted.
If cheaper prices aren't driving Americans to sip more imported
alcohol, what is? Apparently, we're hitting the foreign-made
hooch more because the wholesales have significantly increased
what they're bringing into the U.S., resulting in a bigger
supply and better selection in stores. That seems to be a key
reason why, for example, Irish whiskey sales in the U.S. were up
16% last year.

And in Canada, pot's going to be legal federally this coming
Wednesday. One can smoke it wherever one can smoke tobacco
apparently. Just don't wear a marijuana plant logo emblazoned on
a t-shirt at a US border crossing among some other problems .

One may think that the mineral water sales are, therefore, down.
No, both alcohol and water sales will be, in the average, up
always. The reason is obvious; the population grows continuously
