Winter Storm Jonas
By: HOLLAND Date: January 23, 2016, 6:29 pm

It is really a bad storm and I feel for everyone who is living
under it just now. Keep warm and take care.
As I remember, I do not recall any major storm mentioned in the
Bible except for Paul's voyage at see where they came to be
shipwrecked on Malta. All storms can lead to a possibility of
shipwrecked, and one can 'make a shipwreck of one's faith'. One
must walk in faith and exercise prudence in the times of
trouble.
God be with you all.

[/quote]That's me, Holland. I had shoveled my sidewalk when
there was about four inches on it -- after I finished delivering
papers. When I got up and went out to shovel it again, I found
that a neighbor had shoved a path on both sides of his house, so
that left me with only doing a little area to get into my house.
What was odd was that someone had walked up the steps because I
could see the footprints; and I thought it had to have been the
mailman, but there was no mail.
So I decided then to start working on getting my two cars out.
One at a time, of course. I started and wore out fast. It
would have taken me five or six goes at it, hours probably.
Then two fellows who had already shoveled their car out showed
up. They asked if I wanted them to do it. I asked how much,
and they wanted me to name a price. I said a hundred dollars
would work for me. I gave them $60 then and will pay them the
other $40 when they're done. The last I saw they were making
fast work of it. I am so grateful. I also got their phone
number just in case there's another storm and they want to earn
some more money.

It sure looks like one big nightmare but you have one glimmer of
comfort in the maelstrom with the guys shoveling out your
vehicles. We certainly have bad snowstorms in Montana but do
not have them in such an intensity as you have now experienced.
(I should say this about storms of recent memory.) I recall
when I was in the military, in Cheyenne, WY, experiencing a
storm that had such a bad blizzard whiteout that I was unable to
see from outside the medical barracks I was lodged in only seven
feet from the the main door. I understand that in the same
storm a 65 year old man perished in the blizzard because he was
unable to find his way back into his own house after he had
walked outside.
I guess Winter Storm Jonas has claimed 34 lives to this point.
I pray that there shall be no more.
Peace be with you!

The streets in my town are still in dismal condition. Plans are
made to remove the snow on one side of the street I live on; but
that's little help since the odds are that all the spots will be
taken all the time. You never know though, I might be able to
find a spot a block away. Right now, I'm parking at the Sentinel
building about four blocks away where the lot is clear.

The good news it got above freezing today and melted some of it.
Indeed it's above freezing now -- at one in the morning.
Edit to add: The borough did clear out some spaces down the
street, close to the spot water drains off the street. I was
able to park there. I parked on the bridge over Letort Spring
Run.
