Woodchuck as a Neighbor

We have a woodchuck living in the middle of town where I live.
I live in Great Falls, Montana. The woodchuck lives on the
shore of Riverside Park in the middle of town. He is as large
as a small dog. He is fat, a rolly-polly well fed chap, of
heavy brown fur, dark legs, and luminious dark eyes. When he
stands up like a gopher, he is an impressive sight. He seems to
give that look of wonder, or perhaps annoyance at the humans who
pass him by, usually in their cars. The eyes remind me of that
of the owls I have seen. They have the kind of a wisdom that
seems to have much to teach. I am surprised that he is still
alive given the river is regularly hunted by hawks and eagles
through all the seasons. The area is, also, traversed by dogs
whom, I figure, would be mighty happy to give chase to him.
It is interesting how wildlife can live in towns and cities. I
have seen whitetail deer, pheasants, rabbits, beaver, muskrats
right in town, to my amazement, though, I realize, they can get
by with the larder of the wild that is still nearby. It is
something to give God praise.
What are your experiences of the wildlife as they come into your
town?

Mostly rabbits and squirrels here. Not too exciting. Maybe if
I went to the parks more, I'd see more animals. I wouldn't be
surprised if I started seeing raccoons, opossums and skunks.
People have started putting their garbage bags out days before
pickup.
In a way, you could compare the situation to economics and
immigration in humans.

I dont live in a town or city. I live outside a small town of
about 20 thousand population. There is mostly woods around me,
so plenty of wildlife, but mostly small game, the biggest thing
being a fox. There is bear not far and coyote as well, but
they havent come into this area, probably too close to town and
other houses and lights around that they dont like. Animals
only get used to living amoung humans if they grow up around
them. Even the squirrels here that feed from the bird feeder
will run if me or my wife come outside. Thats the way I prefer
it. I tell them from time to time that although they dont need
to fear me, I want them to fear humans in general, because most
are untrustworthy.

I'm still waiting to spot a coyote. I've never seen one; but a
woman at work says there's lots of them close to where she
lives. And she and a driver both told me they saw in a section
of town I wouldn't think coyotes would be in. I couldn't
believe it at first -- I'd never heard of them being around
here.

I've never seen coyotes in Great Falls, Montana, Kerry. I
understand that they are now in all 50 states which is quite
something when you think about it.
I have not seen the woodchuck for about three months since I
first posted this thread. I suppose the woodchuck is elderly
and may have finally fallen victim to a hawk or dog. If so,
'tis a pity for he was a great joy to see.
