Finishes hanging the bunting and paper chains and then goes and
fetches the birthday cake and cupcakes we made earlier and sets
them on the table next to thepresents

*with breakfast ready i sit the pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit
cream and maple syrup on the table, then making a hot mug of
coffee, just how Momma likes it, i go and quietly chap on her
door, before slipping inside.
"Happy Birthday Momma! breakfasts ready."

All the kids had known it was going to be my birthday. Not
because I'd slyly mentioned anything, or put it on the calendar,
or given them extra allowance. But because they love me :) And
because I'm sure that Willa, my sweet, sweet oldest child,
reminded them.
I'm awake in bed but rather enjoying my small lie-in, knowing
that the kids are probably letting me stay put a bit longer only
because it's my birthday. Ordinarily, I'd be downstairs getting
breakfast ready.
Hearing the small knock I sit up, though, as Willa comes in and
says happy birthday. Smiling I answer, "well thank you,
Sweetheart. And thank you for letting me sleep in a little this
morning. Did you get Toni and Kiki fed breakfast?" I ask,
assuming that Willa and Iona could fend for themselves more than
the other two. Toni was still only allowed to cook in any way
with supervision only after the last time!

*Smiles at momma as i sit the mug of coffee by her bed.*
"Well, kiki's had cookies- don't worry, it was the oat and
raisin ones! - and some milk cos you know how cranky she gets
when shes hungry! I think shes actually sleeping under the
kitchen table at the moment....we should probably just put a
mattress under there for her! The rest of us haven't eaten yet
- we were waiting on you! Breakfasts on the table - and no, i
didn't let toni near the stove!"

"Aww, well that's sweet," I answer my daughter, leaning forward
to kiss her forehead and then throwing the covers off and
getting out of bed. "Alright, let's head downstairs, then."

downstairs slightly ahead of momma. Leaning down under the
kitchen table, i lift kiki out and balance her on my hip,
turning to face the door so i can see mommas face when she sees
the room*

I follow Willa downstairs and to the kitchen. When I reach it
and see all of the decorations and pile of presents and table
set my jaw drops.
"Oh, you guys! You didn't have to do all of this!" I move to
give each one a hug and kiss with a big grin.
