I think of it as the unity of connection and
the unity of collective action. The arm that does not work is
part of the body, connected to the body but not in unity of
action with the body. Paul says that some will not see
themselves as part of the body because they are not the part
they want to be. The nose says because I am not the hand I am
not part of the body and stops being in unity of action with the
body even though it can not leave the body . It is unified by
skin and tissue but not by mind and action.
Is this a picture of the church today I am not capable to judge.

We obviously see things differently James. I have a painful
knee at the moment but my damaged knee is still connected to the
same head as the rest of my body; it still has the same blood
flowing through it as all the healthy bits and it still has the
same DNA. So unless is is cut off it is still alive and remains
united with the rest of me even though it may not be in harmony.
And there is the possibility of healing. My body divided and
split into many parts could never be healed. The body of Christ
may be imperfect but all of it has the same blood, the same
Spirit and the same DNA and the same Head - so therefore as I
see things it has unity, albeit imperfect unity. I really don't
think unity means we all have to agree on everything just that
we all have the same Spirit and blood.

I'm with James here Pat, everyone who has accepted
Jesus sacrifice for their sins whether in a church or out is
part of the body. There is no getting away from being a part of
the body wherever we are and whatever our thoughts on it are but
I do see a uniting of thoughts occurring and when Jesus returns
we will all know we have always been a part since our rebirth in
the spirit.

Paul's message here seems for sure to be about 'ONE'.
Not everyone is in the ONE. Many people don't like hearing
that. The greasy gracers don't like hearing that. They like to
think only of one happy Glob. Not so.
John writes:- another unpopular set of verses- " They went
out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of
us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went
out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of
us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all
things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the
truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father:
(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 24
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the
beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall
remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the
Father.
The Runners, the God Chasers...are called to be One..to me we
are again speaking of the Prize of the high calling...( which we
had in that other thread) which is different from The Gift.
As I see it.

That is an interesting thought Pat, I do remember Paul said "let
this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus" .
I see that if we all let the mind of Jesus be in us, and as Paul
says in another place that "we all mind the same things" then we
will be flesh and blood body but also one in mind in intent and
and in action. All actively seeking the high calling and
pressing on into the life in the spirit.
Just a thought.

James I see it differently We have unity not uniformity.
Creation has not uniformity its an anathema. You will never find
the exact same tree ever, no two creations are uniformally the
same although on certain levels they are a type of something its
unity with each having its individual creativeness within that
unity. Christians are no different we are a broad brush... the
body is many parts and we thank God its so.

We are united by the Spirit of God and the blood of Jesus but we
are also individuals, different body parts, but of the same body
but not necessarily of the same mind - yet.

Agree, and I am sure we all agree...but how do we get there, and
not only that, how do we stay there once we get there?
We all say that we desire it and we say that we want it...but we
haven't made it yet! :'(
