Conservative Leader Stephen Harper loses. Canadians voted to
Justin Trudeau to the prime minister's office.
The free world has lost its leader

The free world has lost its leader. In the absence of a vigorous
American foreign policy, Canada's Stephen Harper supplied his
own. For the better part of a decade, he energetically
championed Western interests. He was serious about fighting
terrorism, keen on free trade and prepared to deploy
proportionate force in defense of freedom.
His defeat in last week's Canadian general election will be felt
far beyond that sparse, chilly country. When other Western
leaders fretted about Israel's 2006 Lebanon war, he gave his
full backing to the Jewish state. When others dithered over
Putin's invasion of Ukraine, he led international condemnation.
Obliged to meet Vladimir Putin at a summit meeting, he was
admirably curt: "I guess I'll shake your hand, but I have only
one thing to say to you: Get out of Ukraine."
Canada, like most countries, partly defines itself with
reference to what it isn't; but Harper was uncomplicatedly
pro-American and pro-British. In his first overseas speech as
prime minister, he told a London audience how glad he was that
his was a common-law, Anglosphere nation. As a matter of
historical fact, this might not seem especially radical; but, my
goodness, what a refreshing break from the line taken by
previous Canadian leaders, namely that their country was a happy
multiculti fusion of First Peoples and Acadians and Vietnamese
boat people.
May God be with Mr Harper, he will be missed.

A good post Helen, Other countries are going to find out just
how good Mr Harper was by his absence now and I add my amen to
the Washington examiner, God bless Mr Harper.

What's with the posters that say God save Justin Trudeau? I've
seen them but don't get it. There was a film promoting him or
something?

Your guess is as good as mine Kerry!! That is the first time I
saw that poster!! If it's a film, I've never heard of it.
Maybe they are only over there in the East!! I suppose "I"
could say, God please save Trudeau. But I am sure that is not
what that poster is for or saying!!
I presume that as his father hated the British Queen so much and
insulted her on every turn, maybe Justin had them made in place
of her..
Not "God Save The Queen", but "God save Justin Trudeau" Now
here's a thought..maybe they will write an anthem and sing it as
our new national anthem!! ;D :D
He is so egotistic, it could happen!! LOL
Dave...maybe you'll get it at every Canadian hockey game!!! :o

Oh Kerry...I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. I feel much
closer to crying.I was JOKING about singing 'God save Justing
Trudeau' In this movie clip..they DO SING to the tune of God
Save The Queen...God Save Our KING!!!!!! :'( :'(

I find it beyond bad taste for anyone to sing "God Save the
King" to honor anyone other than the reigning monarch. It is
revolting and unpatriotic to me, bordering on the treasonous.
As for Patrick Brazeau, now there's another major crook. I had
read about his many troubles before but never caught the news on
how things turned out. I found out he's still facing a trial
coming up in March next year.
Speaking of scandalous politicians, did you hear that ex-Mayor
Ford said he plans to run again for mayor? Yes, he thinks maybe
he can win. Maybe Trudeau could find a spot for him in the
meantime?
I'm all in favor too of Justin Bieber returning to Canada.
Maybe Trudeau could make him "Minister of Cultural Affairs" or
something.
It reminds me of what Bette Davis said in one of her role's,
"Fasten your seatbelts; it's going to be a bumpy night." In this
case though, it may be a few bumpy years.
