       Mark 10
   DIR By: Helen
       Date: July 23, 2015, 10:12 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One
thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and
give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and
come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he
       had great possessions.
This man wanted to follow Jesus. But how much?
Just think when he was an old man, his grandson may have said to
       him.
"Granddad who was the greatest man you ever met?"
       " Jesus" he answers.
He healed the sick, raised the dead, did miracles, changed
lives, and I saw Him do it."
Granddad did He ever talk to you?
       "Yes", he answers.
       'What did He say granddad?'
'He asked me to follow Him.'
The grandson asks- " Did you do it granddad, did you do it, did
       you follow Him?"
He walks out into his lovely garden with the words still ringing
in his ears. Did you do it granddad, did you follow Him?

What a challenge; "for he had great possessions" but what really
possessed him? Jesus said 'only one thing thou lackest" sell
all; the same criteria for today" take up the cross" there is no
true following without the cross principle; to take up the cross
is selling all and allowing it daily to work in our life; the
man knew selling his possessions would be the easy bit; compared
to the following; so he counted the cost and was sad and
grieved; a nameless man but one who Jesus says he loved; how
much more HE was sad and grieved; was he the man just possessed
by the cares of his world or unbelief that Jesus wouldn't
deliver what HE promised or maybe he made it to the upper room
       crowd//

We are all too busy.... that's life, we don't keep in touch with
friends as much as we should because time incessantly marches
on. The only way to follow Jesus is to put down the nets, step
away from the business and make him paramount in our lives. It's
not about becoming poor it's about casting off things in our
lives that are weighing us down by taking up our time

I found it to be a pretty powerful story told that way....very
       challenging.

Iv'e always thought that he cared too much for his goods and
wealth...he didn't wish to share. Not having a lot of goods and
wealth in my life, I don't see the challenge.
But like Jesus said...it's hard for a rich man to enter into
heaven. They have too much to lose...I don't!!!
I'd like to think that as time went by, the Lords words kept
working upon him and that yes indeed...he ended up in the upper
       room. :)
As with Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, ...they didn't
lose their salvation they lost their life and their reward as
       faithful stewards.

I know this speaks of a rich man, even so I have never read it
that way as in gold silver.
I always see that the man was rich in what he believed was
important, remember Jesus was seen as a teacher a rabbi one who
by the nature of who they were had disciples just waiting to
follow and learn all the teaching they could. Therefore I see
him rich in his own logic his own take on the world and how to
survive. Jesus asked him to give up the way you think and the
ideas you hold dear for giving away all your goods is a done
deal when you see the great opportunity offered, as in the call
of the fishermen who left their business their goods and their
father to follow Jesus they knew not where. If the mind can be
persuaded then the body will follow.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye
henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of
their mind, 18Having the understanding darkened, being alienated
from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them,
because of the blindness of their heart:

I like that very much. "Transformed by the renewing of the
       mind."
I remember Jim Richards preaching years ago on " Persuading the
heart". I may even still have the cassette series somewhere. He
showed how we must allow the Spirit to persuade the heart, which
transforms the soul, which then causes change in the body
itself. Maybe he was speaking on healing, I can't remember now.
Or something like that. I obviously didn't get it locked down
to a fine art...but it made lots of spiritual sense at the time.
