Holy Spirit thought

This is just a thought, but...Father God has many many personal
names ( in the OT) especially. The Son, Jesus Christ, Lamb of
God, Bread of Heaven has personal names. But other than
Comforter, the Holy Spirit doesn't seem to have any personal
name..strange.
I am guessing our brother John could tell us why. I have never
thought of it before now.
I know the trinity became a doctrine later in the 4th century,
but I have never looked into the alternative, as we were just
taught " the trinity" and never thought twice about it.
Any thoughts?

Do these titles/attributes count as names for the Holy Spirit?
The Spirit of truth Jn 16:13
The Spirit of holiness Rom 1:4
The Spirit of life Rom 8:2
The Spirit of glory 1 Pe 4:14
The eternal Spirit Heb 9:14
The Counsellor Jn 14:26
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding Eph 1:17
The Spirit of son ship Rom 8:15
I read an excellent book on the Trinity this year - The Good God
by Michael Reeves - I highly recommend it if you plan to look
into it.

They're good HH but not a 'personal' name like Jesus or Yahweh.
Maybe the Holy Spirit is called Grace. Or Constance, or
Patience.

I can't think why the holy Spirit needs a personal name. The
same spirit that dwelt in Jesus now dwells in me, I never feel
any inclination to pray to the spirit. I might pray that the
Lord lead me by the Spirit or speak by the Spirit. That is not
praying to the Spirit. It might be God three in one but the
three parts are not equal in office only in nature. Then we can
also see that in all possibility God is 7 in one. On the other
hand the Lord thy God is one Lord, so not even three.
If in the end the son is going to yield up all to his father and
we are going to surrender to the father then the God three in
one might be Father ,Son and we who are all blessed with the
same spirit that was in Jesus. We who are baptised into the same
spirit. Then God shall be all and in all on that day we will
find out the name of the spirit because we will learn the new
name that God calls his wife.

one!

As I have been dwelling on this for a couple of days..I find
that the Father and Son have strong and powerful names. We know
that there is power in a name. In deliverance we tend to have
more authority over a spirit if we know its name (nature)
This led me to be thinking of " the trinity" and how the
teaching came into being etc etc ..and I dwelling on this etc.
The power of The Spirit in my own experience is always in the
name of Jesus..The Spirit moves, acts and demonstrates the power
of God through THAT name.
I doesn't matter..let it go..I was just thinking my thoughts out
loud.

That's just it Helen , he does through the name of all
authority. If it is the name of Jesus that is the only name
given for anything to be effective over the Devil then that is
all the name he needs.
I can see your point. why no name. It is like at other times I
have found something that interests me and even makes an itch
that I need to scratch, only trouble is no one else sees the
urgency as I do.
It must have something to do with being under authority,
therefore a servant. "I say do this and he does it" so said the
Centurion to Jesus. He did not say, I say to Jeff do this, he
did not use a name since the servant was an extension of
himself.
It is what I meant in my post the same spirit in us, an
extension of ourselves.
We shall have to keep praying!!

I can be in on this Helen, but remember that I do see from a
different perspective. I am not a Trinitarian. I don't see a
Holy Spirit as an separate entity or as a part of a triune God.
For that reason looking for a name wouldn't be something I would
do. For me there is God and there is Jesus, God's Son. I haven't
tried to explain the full nature of God in a long while. I
usually leave it alone because it is not something easy to
explain and it is something, when a person has a precise
definition, that is impossible to prove to the satisfaction of
all parties

The "name" is not spell-able word as I see it. When we get into
the name, it is a bit more than J-e-s-u-s or Y-e-s-h-u-a. It is
more than a spoken or written word. It is something we are to
get into... How do we get into a word and men define a word? We
don't, but consider this verse:
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there
am I in the midst of them." Matt 18:20
As to the Holy Spirit, I consider it a gift of God. Adam was the
son of God, or at least he was until he sinned. Something died
when he sinned. Jesus provided a new Life to all of those who
were dead. Everyone born of woman was effectively born dead.
Where was Life? The Holy Spirit quickens the flesh of Jesus in a
person and the person then has Life. What exactly is the Holy
Spirit? What exactly is God?
"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in
spirit and in truth." John 4:24
A little bit of God in a man gives that man a measure of Life.
Only God is good. Without God, no one is Alive.

What is the name of Jesus? Is it the word that some unbelievers
sometimes express openly with their mouths with the effect of a
cuss word? Is it even the word spoken by some believers in a
moment or an hour or a day when they are outside of the place
God wants them to be?
Any person capable of physical speech can utter the word Jesus,
but the utterance doesn't necessarily mean he is "IN" the name.
A person who is incapable of physical speech cannot utter the
word Jesus, isn't also possible for such a person to be "IN" the
name?

Sometimes perhaps it would not matter but many times it very
likely would matter. We (2 or 3 or more) do want to gather
together "IN" his name so that Jesus will be there in the midst
of us, do we not?
"Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as
of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not
of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but
the spirit giveth life." II Cor 3:5-6
Is not the "spirit" here that "giveth life" the same Holy Spirit
of which Jesus speaks?
Why are the words of Jesus Life? They are not dead letters like
the printed words in a Bible that no man has ever read. They are
quickened (brought to Life) by the Holy Spirit.

Thanks John...everyone.. for posts. I will keep talking to the
Lord about it. And wait for some clarity. It's all a bit muddy
at the moment.
As I dwelt on it I know the day in August 23rd 1964...as the
Pastor preached, I saw God's love for us, I saw what Jesus did
for us, but my actual encounter was with the Holy Spirit. This
may sound daft, but in my life it seems that He is the one that
I know the best.
Friend. Yet I know God is One God. As Jesus spoke of Him as HE,
then He has personality, He isn't just like the wind or breath.
Going to order that book from Amazon HH, if they have it.
EDIT...just ordered it...it will take 4-6 weeks for shipping :(

That made me wonder Helen, can the holy spirit and Jesus be in
the same place at the same time?
The obvious answer is yes. Now I want to know why could the
comforter not come if Jesus did not go away? John 16:7
Is the comforter absolutely the same as the Holy Spirit? Yes
John 14:26
Did Jesus turn into the Holy Spirit by the process of going to
the Father? John 14:16 odd see John 15:26
The Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus as Amadeus was
saying, but more in the nature of Jesus the comforter.
More questions then answers for me.

jesus is with the Father in Heaven but the Holy Spirit is with
us on earth.
