Outcrying

Then the Lord said, ‘The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so
great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if
what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me.
If not, I will know.’ Genesis 18:20-21
I read this the other day and wondered from whom did the
'outcry' come. And wondered what implications, if any,
'outcrying' holds for Christians today.

'My opinion' is that the outcry came from Godly people in nearby
cities such as 'Zoar'. At first I wondered if it would be from
righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah, but we know that isn't
the case since Abraham asked God that even if there were 10
righteous people would he withhold his destruction, God said he
would, but since the place was destroyed, we can see that there
wasn't even 10! Even Lots son-in-laws weren't saved since they
though Lot was joking when he warned them to flee the city. The
only ones saved was Lot and his two daughters.
We could parallel it with the world today with people crying out
to God because of all the wickedness that is in the world right
now. This would fit in with the likes of 1 Corinthians 10:11
these things happened to them as an example, but were written
for our instruction. We know people cry out to God now.. look at
the awful things going on in the world, I know I cry to God
about them, terrible things, perhaps we are now in the same boat
as those who cried out in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

of habit LOL And when you were Poppy I kept calling you Pat :)
)
I just read it out to Dave who is painting the bathroom...so
can't have much time to be on here....his take on it is that he
feels the Sodomites, though gross sinners, wanted deliverance
from the bondage that their flesh was in...much like in murder
mystery movies they tell us the killer really wants to be caught
as he is sick of his life and himself. ( true or not, no idea)
Maybe many of the men didn't really want their children and
grandchildren to be in the same bondage.
How'd you like them apples Nicky?

So does Dave think it was actually the Sodomites crying out to
God themselves? I'm not sure I can accept that. My take is
that because only Abraham and his family served the Lord in
those days it was more likely to have been heaven itself crying
out against the evil practices that were going on.

I understand Daves logic but not sure I can come alongside those
there apples :D
The idea that they are heavenly people..I'm not sure either
since we read the cures reached God which makes me think of
cries going upward, but, the bible doesn't actually tells us, so
were all guessing I spose :)

No, Dave wasn't saying they were crying to God at all...but
crying for their inner bondage.
Jesus talked about the very rocks crying out if we didn't praise
God.
And God talks about Abel's blood 'crying out' ...so maybe it was
the whole atmosphere crying out!!
I don't see it being Lot, as he, in my book , was complacent in
even living and staying there.

Having emerged from bathroom painting and reading King James
version of Genesis 18 and 19 and reading verse 20 which says
because the cry of sodom and gomorrah is great,not the out cry
against S and G,out cry and cry of are two different
positions,God's intent was not to destroy if righteousness could
be found it wasn't so to deliver them he destroyed them,His
mercy to them,Peter describes Lot as a righteous and ignores his
incest,he who new no sin became sin that we might be made the
righteousness of God,that'.s why I love him,mercy's great and
grace is free there my burden heart found liberty,He heard my
cry not the out cry.

Good point Dave ( though it is an easier read if you add in a
few more periods as I just did in the above quote! :D )
So your inner feelings about were right after you checked it
out. It was indeed the cities themselves which were 'crying out'
not anyone crying out against them as it were!! Who would have
thunk it.

everyone crys out to God even the blood in the ground crys
injustice. Please don't presume that in S & G were equal...
there will have been many many victims in those cities who cried
out to God
