Wait on the Lord
By: James Date: September 2, 2014, 3:37 am
---------------------------------------------------------

I was on FSF this morning and read a post that mentioned the
need to be still...... and this came to mind, I thought I would
also copy it here.
.....................................
As I read this again today it made me
think of someone who sits still and then says come on do it now
"I am sitting still".
This is illustrated so well by my grand children, they want "IT"
now and dad ends up saying when you sit still I will let you
have it. Bottoms on seats but arms and legs flapping and voices
crying out.
It is our mind that has to be still, we have to quieten our
restless spirit, we have to wait upon the Lord. Which if we
check out turns out to mean to wait as in waiting at table ,
learning to serve, to be more interested in his needs then in
ours.
Ps 51:16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else
would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a
contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
This verse seems to me to say when we can let our spirit be
broken , when we stop the give it me now, that is something He
the Lord delights in and a happy father knows how to give good
gifts to his children.

How am I ever still.
A psychoanalyst said to me when in stress ''How do you
relax.'' ''Paint, draw, read or watch TV.''
''How do you relax'' he repeated.
How? What do you do? How are you able to get before God
being still? Or is it a stillness of the 'Spirit ' alone?

I was reading Ps 46 were we find be still ,and it's an all
action Ps,God doing stuff,nations doing stuff,then verse 10 be
still and know, the root of still is Rapha, meaning to mend,i.e.to
heal and it's a process, the healing is in the knowing of God,not
knowing about God,David seemed to find his stillness in
worship, maybe we each have a place of stillness that only we can
find and in that secret place we hear His voice saying peace be
still.

Good posts here. amen.
Yes , I think stillness must be in body, mind, soul and spirit.
We can be busy and yet at total peace. I don't think we can ( I
can't) be busy and still on the inside at the same time. I think
peace is a calm blessed assurance...a trust that all is well..
being Still ( I think) while relaxing in Him also contains a
listening element to it. Quiet, still, calm , with an open ear a
consciousness of Him..
Very interested to read ( Dave) that the root of 'still' is
Rapha!! Jehovah Rapha..the God who heals. Not sure I have ever
known that. :)

"Sit still" that was what Ruth was told, means to dwell to
remain to settle.
We are at rest when we settle things in our heart. The reason
she had to sit still was because Boaz "will not be in rest until
he has finished the thing today".
You can sit still when there is no more you can do but wait to
see the plan of God and you can not rest until you have finished
what you must accomplish in the day of the Lord.
The future bride must sit while the bridegroom completes the
preparations.

As Helen said, James has a lot of good thoughts tucked under his
belt (if only he'd step back into what he originated).
