Tried a change of church on Sunday

It used to be 'old fashioned Baptist' many decades ago (until
certain deacons hankered for the increasingly popular
charismatic stuff, and appointed a new 'in tune' Pastor.
And thereon the decline began IMO.
And friend of mine (since the days of my original church) had
moved there and was one of the deacons, but he was overruled
when he warned that they would get 'froth in preference to
teaching'.
He was absolutely correct and membership rapidly increased
(especially with the youngsters who lapped up the new Pastor's
introduction of a junior football team, a worship session
percussion and 'three chord' guitar band, and other forms of
'entertainment').
Today it has grown into the largest local 'church'
(unrecognisable from its origins).
The singing was an unbelievably constant repetition of phases
which felt as if the objective was to build up a trance like
hysteria.
It got to the point where I just had to get up and leave.
Who believes that God's will is served by the 'popular growth'
of concert like 'performances' and 'trance induced' worship
(anointing ????????).
At the end I guess there were so many arms waving that the
Pastor had say "hands down those who wish to stay for coffee" ;D

Dont know what to say to that Mike, but I see it was not to your
taste.
The difficulty that I always have in such a situation is being
aware that many are sincere in their hearts and I never want to
tell them “ that’s not how to worship God" because frankly I do
not know the God way to worship. I know what I like but that’s
not objective.
It has to be “ spirit and in truth" who is to say how that is
defined?

You're very wise James.
Best not to even think about trying.
"Work out one's own salvation with awe and diligence" (not
everyone else's critically)

Do not agree, trying something always shows that one at least
has an open mind to change. [emoji1601] One never knows if one
just might find a pearl where least expected. Over the years I
have found one or two. [emoji184]

Not sure about that.
"Pearls" seems to smack of 'closing' one's mind to 'a new found
speciality' which then can so easily become the foundation stone
of yet another denominational divider.
I hang onto the hope that experiences will have taught me (by
the time I see Christ face to face) to finally be able to say
"Nothing (including theological pearls) in my hand I bring,
simply to thy cross I cling"

You may have misunderstood, I was referring to the one pearl of
great price and the pearls we find and then go on to look for
another, rather like rungs on a ladder.
