The reason for the season.
By: Pat Date: December 1, 2020, 5:35 am
---------------------------------------------------------
It's the 1st of December today and as we get nearer to Christmas
I think it's easy to find our minds wandering from the spiritual
to the worldly if we aren't careful. Every year I try not to
get caught up in the pressure and stress of making Christmas
'perfect' but there always seems to a bit of that creeping in.
This year because of lockdown it may be easier to keep the
worldly things out.
To me it's important to keep the reason - Jesus - at the front
of my mind as we get ready to celebrate the season.
Perhaps we might all share our thoughts and bring some life back
to our lovely group.

You know Pat I believe that this whole year has been about
getting everyone to think about the worldly things.
This virus has been played out as if it is the angel of death
and one would think that being reminded we are frail would
encourage people to think about what comes after death and maybe
decide to make their peace with a living God. This has not been
the case.
I read the parable of the sower and was struck by the cares of
this life that choke out the word. That most important word that
Jesus said would be the only foundation that the wise man could
or should build on.
Abigail was praying today and she said that she wanted things
but the most important thing she wanted was a family Christmas
where we were all together. To her doing things together seems
to be the spirit of Christmas. I take it to mean she sees union
as the spirit of a baby given to make man one with God. The
word says "love is kind", I don't try to make Christmas
spiritual, it is already breathed by God, I do try to remember
to be kind.
Have a blessed time saints, James.

I don't try to make Christmas spiritual either but I do try to
focus on the reason we celebrate rather than on the celebration
itself.

I know what you mean Pat. I am so glad that our saviour knows we
are flesh and that as likely as not our celebration will in fact
be a bit of a mixture both of the spirit and soul as we have a
good time together and rejoice in the grace of God. The Lord
gave us the ability to have fun, be spontaneous and enjoy a
sense of humour. Like Our brother Paul says, moderation is the
name of the game. To the pure, he says, all things are pure.
