       DATE NIGHT
By: Pat Date: September 29, 2020, 6:48 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
As I was praying this morning I could see that I might be taking
Jesus too much for granted. When I first met him it was all
very exciting and new and I wanted to spend a lot of time with
him and talk about him to anybody who would listen.
       In fact it was rather similar to when we first fall in love;
it’s all new and wonderful and we can’t bear to be separated and
spend our days looking forward to the next time we can be
together. Of course this intensity in a relationship doesn’t
last no matter how much we love each other and it seems to me it
can be like that in our relationship with Jesus.
After our marriage hit a rocky patch some years ago, my husband
and I made time to go out once a week on a ‘date’ and talk about
       what it was that made us fall in love.  My daughters do it now;
date nights or mini breaks away from their families to keep
       their relationships fresh.
It occurred to me that we would all benefit from ‘date nights’
with Jesus; time set aside just for him in our busy lives. Even
if our lives aren’t that busy I have found that it is still so
easy to take him for granted and lose the freshness of our first
love. It is something I’d never thought of this way before but
my prayers now are for more room in my6 heart and in my life for
       Jesus.
I think all this train of thought started with the post from
@Charity quoting the old hymn ‘Tell Me The Old, Old Story’
which led me to think of another oldie, ‘Tell Me The Stories Of
Jesus’. We hear so much speculation today and people’s
differing interpretation of scripture that we can easily lose
sight of the main thing, the most important thing, which is
       Jesus.
I am planning to spend more time in his presence just
consolidating and refreshing my relationship with him.

       Hi Pat,
I agree with you that we can become complacent and take Him for
granted. We would not (or SHOULD not) take any true
relationship for granted, most especially with Him! But, yet we
can do that :( As far as making an exact time for prayer is not
something I do as, I pray throughout the day and if I make a
specific time and fall short of that, it will make me feel un
faithful. But yes we can take Him for granted and, that is not
how we are to treat our FIRST LOVE, amen!
He is in the forefront of my mind all day long.
       God Bless sissy!

Hi Nancy, when I wrote that post it wasn't meant to suggest that
people don't spend time with Jesus because I'm sure we all do.
And neither did I intend to put pressure on people to set aside
       a regular time.
What I was trying to get across is that every now and then it
would be lovely to be able to forget everything else to spend
quality tine with him just as you would on a date night with a
partner where you agree not to talk about the kids or the
mortgage but to just concentrate on each other.

Oh gosh Pat, no, I did not at all think you were pressuring or
at all saying that. And, I totally agree with you that "alone
time" with God IS important, not to mention, joyful, peaceful
       and intimate! Amen :)
Your last paragraph was giving me a picture of the parks I love
to go to alone, or with the dogs and commune, just Him and I,
zero distractions. It's a beautiful thing and wish I would do
it more often. Tomorrow sounds like a great day to start
too...no plans! even to just park by the lake as, it hasn't
frozen over yet, it will be so deep blue and still moving!
       Thanks. You've inspired me.
Love you sister across the pond! :D
       xx

Usually by now Lake Erie is already at least 10 to 15 percent
frozen over. Right now it is about 8%. Ya just never know but,
it has been below freezing now for over a week! And, today is
no exception. We are also expecting a storm again.

We’ve had a very mild ‘winter ‘ it’s been around zero since
       October .
One week it went down to -12 but just a couple of days.
So that’s one bright nice thing ...and we are enjoying the daily
       sunshine 😊

Although not as cold as you Helen, it is chilling with the lake
winds. Goes right through me! Going to look like that little
kid in the Christmas Story and if I fall, I'll just roll on the
ground, not being able to get up for all the layers of clothes!
Ahaha. Maybe I will win the leg lamp prestigious reward! :O

Yesterday there was definite hint of spring with the sunshine,
and the clematis leaves beginning to unfurl; but I woke this
morning to snow so we're back to winter.
