The Legacy Command set is what is needed to get started.

From there, you can purchase any Legacy locomotive or complete
Legacy sets.

Hi Larry
With the Legacy Command, I can power the train plus the tracks
and some accessories. Or do I need something else

You need a power supply in addition to the legacy system.

Legacy locomotives can be programmed and run on any 3 rail '0'
gauge track.
