The bag I would recommend for starting the INCH pack

I have come to be a big supporter of the Snugpak bags and if
there is one i would recommend for the inch scenario it would be
the bergen or the rocketpak. These two bags are the most
innovative and blackhole pak that i would consider goal/mission
adaptable. Though I'm not going to write about the advantages of
these packs so others will do their own research. Take a look at
these packs and let me know what you think. Also give me some
ideas of your packs for INCH.

I have a janasport Alaska . Internal frame, made for a big guy.
Holds 8000 cubic inch. ( more than I want to carry) I need to
add a rain fly or poncho that covers it. It has been my go to
hiking bag ( yes I use to hike a lot) for a number of years.

I currently have the ilbe rucksack which in general. I will
eventually pick up a snug pack rocket though I like the modular
capabilities of that pack. (I don't have the day pack for my
rucksack)

I like the Snugpacks more every time I see them. I've trended
towards the light end even for an INCH bag while reflecting on
backpacking when I was younger. You're a roaming refugee no
matter how much you carry and in a realistic scenario such as a
wildfire you are going to want important documents including say
a platte of your property for insurance or to prove your
ownership reasons. Other than that you have to take care of
your everyday survival needs with little room for fluff.
Building your skill set and adding a knowledge base you can
improvise on is going to free up a lot of space for gadgets in
my opinion.
On that note I'm revisiting my INCH (or call it backpacking
because it works for that too minus the documents) bag is based
more on Kephart's Camping and Woodcraft rather than a SERE
training. If I can't go home I want more than just a knife to
use on everyday chores and something hardier than just a roll of
fishing line. I'm thinking more like a mountain man possibles
bag with hatchet/camp axe and other necessities for a long term
trek in the woods without hope of resupply. With that said I'm
also gearing my training up accordingly to subtract ounces from
my pack.
Now that I've said all that I'd like to know some actually field
testing experience of the Snugpacks before I made a final
decision on them. I'm generally a bit leery of aluminum and have
stuck with an ALICE pack for that reason but am willing to drop
off the kidney torture now that I'm older and fatter (another
training issue that is my main concentration at the moment...the
fatter not older lol). I really have considered dropping the
scratch on a Kifaru pack having seen one first hand and able to
pick the brains of some regular users and abuser of said pack.
But they aren't cheap...

Which kifaru pack are you considering? They are largely modeled
after a ilbe rucksack. (With more options)
