Betrayal: A True Sith Story. *Revised*
Part 2: Push and Pull
"Push him harder we need to know for sure!" Shouted a Voice.
Pain erupted throughout Helios' mind as the images of his life
floated before him. He saw his time as a Jedi with Erenim, he
saw his fight aboard the Eclipse with Kade Stargazer, and he saw
the first time he picked up a lightsaber.
"These memories mean nothing!" the voice spat. "Push harder!"
Helios was seeing double and his mind felt fuzzy. He tried to
focus on the figures in front of him but they looked as though
they were bouncing up and down, such was his dizziness. His body
ached along with his mind. Helios became dimly aware that he was
sitting in a chair. A tightness in his arms and legs told him he
was restrainted.
"Gabriel, if I push him any harder, his mind will turn to mush,"
someone new said.
"We must be sure, Michael," stated the original speaker. "If we
make even a single mistake..."
"I know exactly what SHE will do, if we fail again." Interupted
Michael.
"Then push harder. We must break into his mind and see all there
is to see."
The second figure, the one called Michael, sighed. "As you wish,
Gabriel."
And then the pain began again...
*
Two days earlier.
Helios landed in the arranged spot after his contact in the
Hellfire Tribe had told him to come here alone. It was a barren
moon, only a few refineries and fueling stations dotted the
surface, and the planet it orbited was a gas giant devoid of all
life.
The moon had just enough oxygen to justify walking around
without a helmet, though it was thin, as if you were climbing a
mountain. He'd have to be careful.
Helios was excited for his new journey. He'd managed to escape
all forms of pursuit from the Imperial Legion and no Jedi or
Sith trackers had found him. Fortunate to say the least. From
there he had sucessfully contacted someone in the Sect of Truth,
one of the divisions of the Hellfire Tribe. They'd been
spreading the good word about the True Sith and had been
broadcasting their intentions across the holonet.
His contact had been skeptical at first, but after Helios
professed time and again his disillusionament with the Jedi, the
contact had arranged this meeting.
Now he waited.
And waited. Helios waited for six hours bored out of his mind.
Then suddenly a black ship landed. It looks sleek and lacking
any sort of armament. Not quite a shuttle, but not a fighter
either. Helios had never seen its like before.
It landed a few yards from Helios' shuttle. When it did, there
was just a faint sound in the Jedi's mind. Almost unsettling.
The shuttle opened and out stepped a human in long blond hair
and vibrant green eyes, He had a bit of a pointy nose and
dressed in black and white robes with a golden symbol of some
kind of demon over his left breast.
"Hello, Helios Pendragon," he said, greeting him. He gave a
polite bow. "I am Michael of the Noonstar, a Warden of the True
Sith and servant of the True Emperor."
Helios returned the bow with one of his own. "I am Helios
Pendragon, former apprentice to Erenim Pendragon, former Jedi of
the Imperial Legion."
"So it would seem." Michael looked into Helios' mind with a
slight probe, a telepathic attempt to see if Helios held any
agression toward him. Helios didn't resist.
"I know that you worry this is a trap," Helios said. "I'm ready
to do whatever I can to prove my worthiness."
"You understand, of course, why we'd be worried."
"I understand," Helios said. "I expect you'd had to deal with
your fair share of Legion Spies."
"They rarely get further than this moment. Though I have to
admit, Helios, I'm surprised by the stories I'm hearing about
you. You broke into the Legion temple on Coruscant? You stole
information for us?"
"I did." It'd been a tough mission, and he was proud of his
success.
"Why would you do such a dangerous thing?"
"Because I'm tired of the Legion. I am ready to commit to the
True Sith. "
"We are not so easy to join, Helios. We're not like your houses,
where you can jump from place to palce with no regard of loyalty
and committment. We have standards."
"Give me any test," Helios demanded. "I will pass them."
"If I asked you to hand that information over? With no promise
of a reward. No guarantee that you'd make it to the Hellfire
Tribe?"
Helios undestood that this was his only chance. Give the wrong
answer and the Hellfire Tribe would reject him and he'd be all
alone, no allies. But he nodded. "I have come to see the truth
of the Legion. The Truth of the Jedi. And the Truth of Anubis
D'Sade. The Legion is going to lose this war, and I'm done being
on the losing side. I sided with Ki'alten during the War of
Brothers. I witnessed what remained of him once the Stargazers
were through. I refuse to be on the losing side again."
"So it's just that that calls to you? Winning?" He sounded
disappointed.
"No, that is what started my fall. But I also began to
understand that the True Sith offer a form of freedom that the
Sith of the Legion could never understand. I think of Anubis and
i see the power he wields over life and death and it feels real.
I want that power. I crave it."
Michael looked over Helios with a renewed interest. "And again,
if I ask for the information you have, you'll just hand it
over?"
"I want the True Sith to win this war," Helios said. "If that
means I have to watch from the sidelines, I accept that. You
want the information..." Helios took it out of his pocket and
threw the data storage unit at Michael, who caught it in his
hand. "Have it."
"You're quite selfless, Helios. Not like a Sith in that regard."
Helios thought about that. "I know nothing of being a Sith. I
know only the stereotypes and the tall tales the Jedi teach. The
Sith of the Legion are weak and unfocused. If I am to wield a
red blade, then I want to learn the True Path."
Michael seemed to be concentrating. "There is one way we can
know for sure. You must submit to a scan. I must look into your
mind and see the Truth for myself."
Helios nodded. "Do what you-"
Michael launched into action touching the ground and shouting
"BIND!" a line of energy shot out and hit Helios. He felt his
entire body sieze up and was unable to move his arms and legs.
"Apologies, but we'll need to move quickly."
A blast of lightning shot out and Helios knew no more.
*
Now...
A moan escaped Helios lips. Michael loomed over him. He was tall
and lanky his must of been six foot at the least.
On Michaels right stood the man named Gabriel. Also human, he
had short white hair and average features his face would almost
inviting if not for the Blood red mixed with Orange eyes of a
Darkside user.
Upon hearing Helios moan the Michael and Gabriel stopped
bickering and turned their attention to him.
"Ah, Helios, I'm glad you where able to make it back to us,"
said Michael while clapping his hands together. "I'm sorry for
the roughness with which I have handled your mind." He continued
after wincing apologetically.
"Probing one's mind with the Force can be very dangerous."
Gabriel chimed in. "You know who else can be very dangerous?" He
did not give Michael time to reply. "With a part of his mind
dark to us we have no idea what could be in there."
Gabriel raised his hand Red force Lightning crackled between his
fingers. "I know how to get it out of him."
Gabriel pointed his hand at Helios. Helios had not felt this
drained sense his Master Erenim had trained him for his Elder
Trial. He braced himself for pain there was no way he was going
to be able to Reflect it.
"That's enough." Said Michael while stepping between Helios and
Gabriel.
Gabriel huffed. "If this turns out to be another mistake i'll
kill you myself before She does." With that he turned and exited
out a door Helios had been too dizzy to see before.
"Helios, I'm sorry once again for the rough treatment." He said
kneeling before him to undo the bonds on Helios legs.
"Is this how you treat all the people you recruit?" Helios asked
him. Michael stood up and walked behind Helios and started
undoing the bonds on his Wrists.
"Helios, we are but a small group here and we have to keep our
family's safe." Helios bonds fell to the floor and Michael now
walked in front of Helios. "Our leader demands all defects from
other groups be checked by mind probe."
Helios stood up from his chair and tried to rub the soreness
from his wrists. He scanned the room and in the corner he saw a
table upon which sat his now useless saber and his Pendragon
Robes. "So, I take it I passed your test?" Helios asked walking
over to the table.
"Yea, you have more then proved yourself, Helios." He continued
talking. "We now know what the Imperial legion knows about us."
Helios pick up his saber from the table. He felt sadness this
saber had been as much a part of him as any limb on his body.
His mind wandered back to the guards he had killed in the
temple. Helios did not enjoy taking life but the Legions
deception must be brought to light. His attention then turned to
his Pendragon Robes, the family he left behind and Canderous!.
Oh, poor Canderous he would never understand why Helios did what
he did.
"Leaving your past behind can be hard, Helios." Michael had
snuck up beside him while he was lost in thought.
"Say, Michael, what was the dark spot in my mind that you could
not see." Helios asked.
"Most of the time its caused by a traumatic event in your past.
The mind hides the memory to protect itself from the pain," he
replied.
"Yeah, well I have had my share of trauma." Helios Wrapped his
saber in his Pendragon Robes.
Michael clasped Helios shoulder with his hand. "Lets move on
from all this doom and gloom talk and get you a place to rest."
He started leading Helios to the door. "Tomorrow I'm showing you
the city!"
