2nd Annual Perch'n on the Peninsula Surfperch Fishing Tournament

Hello Fellow Northcoast Anglers
My name is Charlie Holthaus and I am a volunteer with the Samoa
Peninsula Fire District which serves the Humboldt Bay Peninsula
area of Humboldt County. I am an avid fresh and saltwater
fisherman and free dive for abalone quite often. This is my
first post on this forum and wanted to intorduce myself to the
group. Having grown up in Trinity County I consider myself
primarily a river fisherman but since moving to the Humboldt Bay
area over 15 years ago, I have adapted to all the various
fisheries the northcoast of California has to offer. I perfer
to fish from powerboats but do enjoy a kayak outing when
conditions are right.
I started this thread bacause I thought there might be some
interest in our upcoming fishing related event.
On July 30, 2011 we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Perch'n on
the Peninsula Surfperch Fishing Tournament and BBQ Fundraiser.
There is a $20 entry donation fee and you must register prior to
fishing. Fishing is allowed anywhere in ocean waters including
Humboldt Bay and the check in deadline is 3pm at the Peninsula
Elementary School in Samoa, California (located across the
street from the Samoa Cookhouse). Pre-registration is available
at several local businesses (see flier), pre-registering allows
you to go directly to your fishing location on tournament day,
if you don't pre-register you will be required to register at
the School in Samoa before fishing on tournament day. There
will ba a Juniors Category (under 16) and a Seniors Category
(over 16) with cash prizes (5% of entry proceeds) awarded for
the largest surfperch in each category, the more participants
the higher the prize value.
The BBQ Fundraiser is open to everyone and admission is only a
$5 donation (Free for Tournament Participants and children 6 and
under). BBQ Lunch will be served from noon to around 3:30 PM or
whenever everyone gets their fill. There will be some great
raffle and selent auction prizes available that were donated by
many local business sponsors. The Tournament and Raffle prize
presentations will begin at 3:30 pm.
