He nodded and fumbled with his quarter in his hand. “Okay...” he
nodded, and looked around. “You’re from the Rez right? The
others at school call them Rez wolves.”

Asha grimaced at the term. "Yeah. The reservation," she replied,
moving hair out of her dark eyes. "We go to school there, but
have sports and what-not in this community too."

He nodded. "I'm not really from around here...I hope that's not
a derogatory thing. My mother and twin moved here from New
Jersey last month, but up until about two years ago, we were in
Ireland. I don't really know much about you folks out here." He
looked down at the quarter in his hand and fumbled it around
between his fingers.

"Its not derogatory, its just stupid," she explained. "We just
don't really care for it. Ireland huh?" She sat back down and
took a bite of her fries. "Why come to the states?"

He sat in the booth behind her, and sighed. "After my father
passed away a few years ago, my mom decided she wanted to leave
home and travel around. But her definition of travelling means
living in a different place for a couple of years and moving
again."

She made a face. "Wow. That's... I can't say anything without

He chuckled and nodded. "It's fine, I've probably heard it
already. If it weren't for my sister getting sick though, I'd
probably not even be here talking to you. Who wants to make
friends from place to place when you may never see them again."
He looked at the quarter in his hand and this flipped it into
the air and caught it again. "Now that she's as sick as she's
become, my mom doesn't really want to be dragging her around.
She settled on this place because she figured the more
mountainous air and fresher environment would be better for
her." He shrugged. "We'll see."

"Sounds like whatever she has, it's serious," Asha said before
taking a drink. "People do that all the time though, they come
here thinking it will help. Doesn't really... Not unless you
have asthma."

He looked up at her and nodded.
"It's actually much more than just asthma. She's very limited in
any of her abilities to move outside of the home. So far, the
month that we've been here, her breathing has gotten better but,
she still has a number of issues, daily."
