Heero nodded, agreeing excitedly. "Thank you so much." He waved
and practically ran out of the room. When he finally left the
building he stopped outside and looked around. Three weeks he'd
been without a single bit of sunshine. It was miserable. At
least when they were still detaining him in the jail he had a
window to look out of. He sighed and looked to a bank sign
nearby. He had to find J and see where Ami was.

Ami, unknowing of Heero's mistrial and subsequent freedom, was
currently on L1. Doctor J had provided her and the kids with a
nice house and aliases to go by until the entire thing had blown
over. As the kids played in the fenced in backyard, Ami did
dishes in the kitchen sink. She'd gotten used to being there for
the most part. She had even found a wig that looked like her
natural hair.

Heero had spent almost an hour just trying to get Dr. J to give
him the information he wanted. When he finally did, he picked up
the first phone he got his hands on and dialed Ami's new number.

"Hello?" she answered, drying her hands on the dish towel. She
kept her eyes on the kids.

She froze and closed her eyes tightly. A soft whimper escaped
her lips as she leaned against the counter. "Thank god..." she
whispered. "Heero..."

his first invitation with her.

He grinned. "Great. I'm getting the first shuttle out. Meet me
at the port, and as much as I want to see the kids, get a
sitter. We need to sit down and talk and I don't want the kids
knowing about it."
