Heero took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly as he walked
further into his son's room and sat down on the edge of the bed
by him. He rustled his hair and smiled slightly. "I'll be back.
This is my absolute last job. I'm resigning my commission after
this." He knew the boy knew nothing of what was being said, but
hopefully he would understand what he was trying to say. He
pulled the boy into him in an awkward hug and released him.
"You're mom's going to be here to watch after you. We've got a
lot of things to work out, but everything is going to be fine."

Heero sighed, a little annoyed that his daughter would say such
a thing. "No, that's not true. Your mom and I just have some
things to work out. But I am coming back. No matter what I'll
always come back for you." He tried to cheer the boy up, but he
wasn't sure how well he was doing.

"Promise?" his voice was a small whisper as he got up and hugged
him tight.

He knew he shouldn't promise something like this, but he almost
had no choice. It just meant that he'd have to fight as hard as
he could to get back. "Yes, Junior, I promise I'll try my
hardest to make sure I'm here with you when my mission is over."

His son, an identical copy of himself in looks, calmed down and
hugged him tighter before getting back in bed.
"I love you daddy..." he whispered sleepily.
