Heero's eyes filled with pain and then he sighed. Honestly, he
didn't even know. She had gotten a boyfriend from inside the
military just before their trip and he wasn't even sure what had
happened. "I don't know..." he spoke, honestly. "Things did
happen when we were gone together. But it was only once, and it
was an accident. I woke up in the middle of the night, I
couldn't see anything, I had forgotten where I was. She curled
up to me the same way you did, and she never said anything. It
wasn't until daylight broke that I even realized what I'd done."
He lowered his sight away from her. "I didn't want to tell you
because I knew this sort of thing would happen. I didn't even
know she was pregnant. I figured if it was my child, she would
have told me...being as far as she was..." He dropped his head
back on the couch and ran his fingers through his hair. "I never
thought you would come back either...I was ready to be taken
from this world. I do nothing but kill people anyway. It's what
I was trained for...and I had pretty much accomplished doing all
of that. So I was ready to leave."

Ami listened to him, her heart wrenching at the suffering he was
going through. She held onto his hand silently, rubbing the back
of it. "Where do we go from here?..." she whispered.

Heero looked at her and then looked away. "Maybe..." he started,
closing his eyes. "Maybe we should...separate..." He'd made up
his mind. He knew that she was hurt by what he'd done, and he
knew she needed time to heal, and maybe forgive him. He turned
his head down, and moved his hands to grasp hers. "I don't want
a divorce, but if you're ever going to forgive me for my sins,
then you need to do it on your own. Without my cohersion." His
hands tightly wrapped around hers, but not too tight. "I want
you to be happy...and I think until you can forgive 'us', we
should veer from our path a little bit." He felt this was the
right way to go. It gave him time to sort out his problems and
it gave her time to find out if being away from him was really
what she wanted and if Vegeta would be the one she would rather
be with.

Ami fell silent through Heero's quite speech, and her hands
trembled slightly in his grip. She carefully pulled away from
him and shifted, placing her feet on the floor as she buried her
face in her hands. Her power level was sky-rocketing, but she
took a deep ragged breath in an attempt to calm down. She didn't
want her brother to come over, worst of all Vegeta. She
definitely did not want to see him after earlier.
"Okay..." she murmured quietly, standing up after a moment. Her
power level had plummeted back down to almost nothing. "I'm
going to have Goku build a house for me on his land...I'll stay
there with Lori and Faith...I'll ask Junior who he'd rather live
with." She kept her voice tightly controlled, keeping the agony
from coming through. Without another word, she headed upstairs
and began packing clothing.

Heero sat up quickly, the light of the room changing the
features on his face, showing how much he'd not groomed. He
quickly staggered to his feet and grabbed her by the wrist and
pulled her back into him, pressing his lips to her's with more
passion than anyone knew this man even had. Something he hadn't
showed Ami since she found out she was pregnant with their first
child and he had threatened to leave. He'd seen her this upset
back then, and he didn't want to keep seeing it any longer. His
arms folded around the curves of her body and he kissed her
deeper, lifting her slightly off her feet to his height.

Ami literally crumbled against Heero's chest and into his arms
as he pulled her to him and kissed her with such intensity. She
kissed him back deeply as tears coursed down her face, wrapping
her arms around his neck tightly.

He moved his hands to the back of her thighs and pulled her legs
up to his waist, picking her up completely, and carried her to
the couch, laying her down gently underneath him. The alcohol
could be smell on his breath the whole time as he kissed her and
then began removing each bit of clothing she wore, his hands
moving in every direction over her sides.

Ami didn't care that he smelled of booze; she whimpered softly
and moved so he could slip her clothing off easier. She arched
into his body and started to strip him, her hands trembling as
they ghosted over his body.

Ami laid beneath Heero, holding onto him tightly with her eyes
squinched shut. She was panting softly and trembling against
him, flushed and slick with sweat.

Heero held himself slightly above her, his head rested on her
chest. His arms were shaky and he could feel the sweat dripping
down his back. He knew he needed her as much as he hoped she
needed him. If this would be their last time together for a
while, he didn't want her to just walk out of his life, taking
her things, and thinking all he did was just let her go. He knew
this would make it harder for both of them to keep this
separation apart, but if they were ever to regain their
marriage, it needed to be done.
