Disappearing marsh

Just watched this video on how our coastal areas are
disappearing. Some of you may have watched it.

I have witnessed this first hand having growing up in Buras. The
marsh lost on the west side of the river from the Buras Boat
Harbor out to the gulf is unbelievable.
It is open water all the way out to the beach line. We still
had a lot of Marsh land back in the 70's. Now there is nothing.
The East side of the river is in better shape due to the fresh
water from the river going into the marsh from numerous breaks.
There are those that are against
fresh water diversions and who say they don't work. I think
that there needs to be both diversions and also dredging from
the river to build land mass in areas that
are just open bays right now.
I don't think anything will ever be done. Work should have
started years ago. Oyster fisherman and Shrimpers are against
diversions and other reclamation plans.
Pretty much all open water areas on the west side of the river
are oyster leases and they definitely don't want any type of
diversion or the pumping in of sediment to
build land. Those water bottoms are leased from the State which
could rescind them removing one obstacle but would result in
many lawsuits.
I guess this is just me ranting, but I'm sure many of you feel
the same way.
