       Jig hooks for fly tying

       At several events this Spring, I was asked about the hooks I'm
       now using for Fluff Butts, Rosborough Hares Ears, crawfish
       patterns, etc..  All of these are "jig hooks", not to be
       confused with "jighead hooks" which I've used quite a bit (and
       still do).  Jig hooks have skyrocketed in popularity the last
       few years as a result of competitive fly fishing tournaments and
       the success of patterns tied on them.
       The four criteria I consider for buying these hooks:
       - 60 degree eye bend
       - eye in plane of hook
       - barbless (preferred)
       - black nickel finish (preferred)
       Prior to last year, sources were limited and prices high. That
       has completely changed.
       Here's a list of jig hook models and sources. Unless otherwise
       noted, are barbless with black finish.
