       A good day for bass

       Lake Valentine is a nearby small NFS lake (100 acres) that's
       somewhat immune to the heavy rainfall we've had the last few
       weeks that have murked up the bigger lakes in my area
       (specifically Cotile, Vernon, Cane River, Grand Bayou, Kincaid).
       This past week I spent one morning and one afternoon fly fishing
       Valentine with one bite all that time. With morning temps in the
       mid-30s and high pressure, I figured maybe a couple days of warm
       south wind might make a difference. It did.
       On Saturday, fellow Kisatchie Fly Fishers members Gene Taylor
       and Bill Morrison joined me at Valentine. We each missed a few,
       and landed a few. But mostly small 10 to 12 inches. I was
       tossing a Dahlberg Diver I picked up from Bill Laminack at the
       Red Stick Day event and was getting a number of strikes, and
       three landed and released. Around sunset this bigger fish hit.
       She looked fat with eggs. After a few quick pics for the Bayou
       Coast Kayak Club / Masseys Fish Pics, she was released to do her
       thing. Now comes another strong cold front, more lows in the
       upper 30s until Thursday. Hopefully warmer back again for next
       weekend.

       Nice bass.  If I lived closer, I'd be spending time on
       Valentine.  Any pool of water that gives up a 15.87 pound bass
       gets my attention.  :)
