Ponds hot now in N. LA.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
After a bout of extremely cold weather earlier here, I decided
to drive to SC for a few days of fishing. Had a bunch of fun
there and by the time I arrived back home the water temps had
moved up and some big fish moved shallow with the rise in temps.
But, we had some pretty heavy winds that were playing havoc
with my casting stuff like Game Changer articulated flies and
some new Dragon Tail streamers, I switched over to "commie"
tackle for awhile and was catching some nice fish up to and over
five pounds. I kept monitoring the weather and conditions
looked good for yesterday afternoon, and after church, stuffed a
7 wt and 8 wt in the truck and headed over to one of the
kinfolk's ponds. I guess I spent two hours or so "chucking and
ducking" and had one strike fairly close in and planted the #2
Gamagatsu B10S and hustled this old gal in pretty quick on the 8
wt and 16# tippet. No reason to play with these early, pre
spawn bass. While I was fishing here my Bride was two miles
over at our place checking out the bluegills. She was wearing
me down with messages and all those big bluegill pics. Once I
messaged her a pic of this one, she became pretty scarce. :)
A quick check of the Boga showed 6.25 lbs and she was
immediately released. I'm checking my "honey do" list for today
and might just find some time later this afternoon looking for a
       repeat.

Thanks for sharing! That's a HUGE bass on fly!!! Glad to see
it's released to continue the genetic legacy.
Those Dragon Tail flies are something to see in the water,
hoping to use a couple Kirk Dietrich sent me recently. Hard to
break out from the divers for right now.
There's a few ponds around here but between the rain and YET
ANOTHER COLD SPELL this week >:( , may have to wait to the
weekend. Seems like those 1-2 warm days are when the bass
       really get active.

Let us know how you like those Dragon Tail streamers. I fished
one for two hours straight when I caught the 6.25 pounder. I
fished three hours straight with a downsized version I could
handle easily on a 7 wt the other day and caught 16 small bass
and one nice black crappie. Here's what I found about the
Dragon tail itself. After a couple hours the tail becomes very
limp. It doesn't impair its action but it begins fouling on the
hook regularly, even with a mono loop off the back of the hook.
So, my plan is to start each trip with a fresh streamer. I'll
keep the used ones in reserve. They easy to tie.
