Good Day for rainbows

BREC and LDWF did the rainbow trout stockings last weekend at 5
of the BREC parks. I wanted to get out Saturday but just
couldn't get away. I put the fly rod and hip pack in the work
truck yesterday morning so I could stop at Forrest Park on the
way home from work. I finished up my work right before lunch so
I decided to hit up Burbank Sports complex. It took a few
minutes, a few different spots, and a few fly choices but I
eventually found the trout. In about an hour and a half from the
time I parked to the time I left I caught 8 trout and lost 3
more at the bank. All the trout there were caught on an olive
beadhead hares ear nymph under an indicator.
After a quick stop at our office to pick up my paycheck and a
stop at the bank, I tried the pond at Forrest Park. The
rainbeauxs there didn't want anything to do with the hares ear
or dries. I finally caught one on my little squirmy butt fly. I
think I'll keep the fly rod and hip pack in the truck for a few
weeks in case I find some time to stop in at one of the parks
and give it a try again.

VB, you're educating a lot of trout! That Sqwirmy Butt seems
the ticket for both trout and sacalait. Will tie a couple up and
give the local sacalait a try and see how it works.

Yep I definitely educated a few trout that day. That sqwirmy
butt fly is something else. I'm going to try to make a video of
how I tie them soon.
