Posting photos on the new forum

Our new forum has the ability to upload your photos and
documents into a post - with limitations. If you read below, it
states, "Allowed file types: doc, gif, jpg, jpeg, mpg, pdf, png,
txt, zip, rar, csv, xls, xlsx, docx.
It also says... and PAY ATTENTION... "Restrictions: 4 per post,
maximum total size 1024KB, maximum individual size 512KB".
A few observations regarding this...
1. Original photos are almost always WAY too big to upload into
a forum. The typical size of an original is 3000 to 5000 pixels
wide. Most forum posting areas are 800 pixels wide. That means
that the photo will either be downsized or blow off the screen.
Both bad.
2. ALWAYS RESIZE before posting! Using a Photo Editor, copy
your original, resize to 700 to 800 pixels wide, use sharpen
tool if necessary, then save at 85% compression JPEG. This will
produce a file that is about 100kb to 150kb in size. It will
load a lot faster than a 500kb file.
3. Think before you post photos. Do we really need to see the
photo of every redfish you caught on a trip? A few photos will
do. Maybe thrown in pics of the boat in the marsh and you
enjoying a microbrew with your fishing companion (dogs are
always popular with LFF readers). As Confusius once said, "Few
photo make for great post"!
4. If you use Google Photos to upload your pics, continue to do
so. Then just use the IMG URL instead. Again, that makes the
post come up a lot faster.
5. Obviously, most newsletters can't be uploaded even if the PDF
format is allowed. All because of size. If your club is a
member of the FFI Gulf Coast Council, the newsletter can be
loaded to their web host and linked to there. Otherwise, we
suggest you use Google Docs.
Now here's an example of an uploaded photo done right....
