       Dead bulls in Barataria?

Not the greatest video, it's kind of hard to tell what is going
on and the text is really stupid but it gets the point across. I
know it's a big industry and by catch is inevitable but it just
seems like there is a better way.

When I worked offshore I saw pogey boats working. A spotter
plane would find the schools and radio the ship. The ship would
get close to the school and then send out a skiff with a cable
attached to a purse seine. The skiff would circle the school and
then the cable would be returned to the ship which would winch
the net onboard. All the pogeys would be dumped in the bilge.
They would stay offshore as long as it took to get a load. The
pogeys would be allowed to rot in the bilge. They offloaded them
into the plants which made fertilizer out of them. You can smell
those plants from miles away. If you ever smell them you will
       never forget that stink!
Bycatch regulations prohibit them from keeping the reds, they
just cull them and toss them overboard. Shrimp boats do the same
thing. They toss hundreds of crabs and flounder every time they
       cull their catch.

If you think the plant smells bad you should try the smell in
the bilge if the ship. Years ago my cousin did maintenance on
them. When he got done he had to burn his clothes before going
in his house. There is no way to get the smell out.

If you think about the average age of those floating dead fish,
it will make you even sicker than smelling the bilge of the
       murder weapon.

Shrimp boats do the same thing. They toss hundreds of crabs and

As someone who deckhands frequently on shrimp boats, I can say
that our bigger bi-catch of redfish, sharks, flounder (that we
don't keep to eat), and crabs are released. When I empty the
bags on our boat, I go thru the fish before we put it in the
salt barrel. We never catch big bull reds, and the puppy drum
and reds we catch I ease overboard. When I have them on the
       fantail, they are still breathing.
The pogy boats are ridiculous for sure. The snapper boats too.
We had a snapper boat circle us on a rig within spitting
distance while we were catching reds and mangroves.
I am willing to be this was done by a group of inexperienced
anglers who do not know how to properly release fish. It sucks,
but, with so many bullreds out there, it won't hurt the
       population.
