       Little Red River

( Sorry no pictures yet!) It just so happened by shear
coincidence on my part that I had to be in Heber Springs,
Arkansas on Friday August 11th for business purposes. Therefore,
another act of pure coincidence followed with the result being a
guided fly fishing trip on Saturday the 12th on the Little Red
River. The end result was a fantastic fishing day! A friend of
mine and I ended catching and releasing at least 55-60 beautiful
rainbows all on fly rod. The 3 largest were all on the 18 inch
mark and both of us lost larger ! Technique was drifting
dropper rig under indicators ( told the guide it was a vosi --
got a strange look ) with a size 14 on top with a bead head
midge on the bottom size 18 and a 5x fluoro tippet. The guide
was Greg Seaton @ Little Red River Fly Fishing Guide Service ---
very knowledgeable, did a very good job. If anyone is interested
in going up there anytime and needs a fishing partner let me
       know !

First time fishing the little red river...Great fun chasing
fresh water trout! I fly fished when I was a kid, and then in
Colorado many years ago, I just got into fly fishing again and
just got back October 28th 2018 from a week fly fishing along
the little red river, all wading with no guide in between dam
water releases....... caught about 15 nice size 18" rainbows,
but the days I fished it was raining all day..... the 24"
rainbows were jumping 2 f.t out of the water 10 ft. out of my
casting range..... they were feeding on adult midges on the
surface, I caught most on midge pupa, and emergers.... I down
loaded a power plant release schedule which worked perfect.... I
want to return and fly fish some of the other shoals with public
access...I drove my sprinter camper and stayed at the Corp John
F Kennedy camp ground at the base of the dam, which is first
come first served this time of year....... I want to try Beaver
dam 125miles north of the little red river also, and possible
Norfork dam areas in the future.
I want to take a future trip to New Mexico San Juan, also know
some various Colorado streams not on the map, and the snake
       river......when I retire in about a year....
interested in meeting people with same interests

I stopped by the Little Red on my way back from the FFI Southern
Fly Fishing Fair (conclave) back in October. The generators
were off and for about 10 minutes I had a trio of good fish.
Then the horn went off. Next time I'll have that generation
       schedule handy!

       Hello
I know the generation schedules are a must !( I have it on my
smart phone ) for fishing any of the Arkansas tail waters. I
plan my trips around the generation amounts. ( No fish biting at
Generations )I want to try the beaver Dam tail water ...rainbows
only but less traffic then Norfork, Bull shoals, or the little
red.....same corps type of camp grounds. Course The little red
has great fall Browns migration ....my next trip to the little
red I will bring a screen type tent to place at my campground
site and drive my Mercedes pleasure way sprinter to fish down
river shoals, being the campground is first come first served
..( if I leave someone would take my spot without a tent on
site. ) people in the know drive to down stream shoals, I want
to fish Libby shoals, Parking and a long ripply shoal, where a
lot of nice fish are caught .......My pleasure way sprinter
makes a nice place to retreat for lunch or hot coffee and heater
to warm up without coming back to the camp ground ! (
www.swpa.gov ) this will give you all the Arkansas tail water
generation schedules for all tail water mentioned above.
Still want to plan a trip to San Juan tail water New Mexico,
Have an invite from a fellow sprinter owner living on the San
       Juan
Tight lines my email : vidwize@yahoo.com if you need fly
       fishing partner :)
