       Bayou Lacombe Kayak bassin'

It had been quite a while since I took the kayak out for a go on
the Northshore so I thought today would be a good day. I was
loaded and on the road for 4:45. I stopped in at Bayou Adventure
for a couple bottles of water and some ice, then down lake road
to my normal place that I put in. I Started fishing at Glockners
throwing a Texas rigged worm but didn't get a bite so I
continued down. I decided to head into the marsh to see what was
going on there. Still throwing the Texas rig I picked up a few
small 8-inch bass and a couple bigger ones that stretched over
11 inches that I kept. With nothing special in the marsh, I
decided to make my way out to the bayou. I was fishing the edges
of the grass with the Texas rig when I saw some shad come flying
out of the water with something chasing them. This happened a
couple times before I caught a glimpse of green and knew the
bass were chasing shad. I switched over to my rod with a lipped
crank bait and made a couple casts before I hooked up with a
small bass. After a couple more casts, I finally caught a good
look at the size of the shad the bass were chasing and realized
the crankbait I was using was a little too small so I tied on a
lipless crank bait about the same size as the shad. This proved
to be most beneficial, or should I say "bene-fish-al." I ended
up catching 8 more nice bass all between 12 and a half and 14
inches and ended my day with my limit of 10 bass. After I had my
limit of keepers I decided to pick up the 9wt fly and throw a
crease fly that I had finally worked the proportions out. I
caught quite a few bass on the crease fly, so I'll be sitting at
the vise later to make up quite a few more in varying sizes.

Nice! Yep, the bass seem to be turning back on again, even if
it's just a tad. Right now the shad are schooling and it's only
going to get better. That Crease Fly is hard to beat for shad
action. "Ambassador of the Crease Fly" - MusicDoc - gave me a
few recently that he tied up. Caught a 14" yesterday on one.

Yeah, Catch, I sat at the vise the past couple days and have
been making quite a few. I would tie in the tail, then glue on
the body, paint, and repeat. I have half a dozen or so waiting
for eyes, a coat of UV resin, and a coat of clear hard as nails
to remove the tackiness of the UV resin. Has anyone tried making
one with a rattle chamber in it? I was wondering if that would
       make it sink
