The dipole moment of Carbon tetrachloride is zero but Chloroform
has some dipole moment. Why so?

[spoiler]
CCl4 has all four arms equivalently placed along the four sides
of a regular tetrahedron, so the dipole moment of all the C-->Cl
bonds cancel off.
But CHCl3 has a net dipole moment of the three C-->Cl bonds,
plus a dipole moment due to the C<--H bond which adds up to the
net dipole moment vector.
