Why are the electron affinities of Beryllium and Magnesium
almost Zero?

They are moving away from the stable noble gas configuration
that they could achieve by loosing two electrons. Also the s
sub-level is filled.

Yep, the newly added electron will have to go to the sub-shell p
of considerably high energy.
